Hi I'm Carl

I'm a law student, an avid traveler, an intellectual, a husband, a son, a brother, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Law school keeps me very busy. It seems that every day I find myself unable to do even a fraction of the things I would like to accomplish. Prioritizing the various activities in my life seems difficult at times. It seems everything I want to do is a good thing which warrants some of my time and attention. At times I feel I am hopelessly overburdened and feel guilty that I cannot do more to help those I love. However, when I feel overwhelmed with responsibilities and discouraged in my inability to do more I find comfort in the Gospel of Jesus Christ which helps me to focus on those things which are most important: my relationships with my wife, my family, and with other friends and loved ones.

Why I am a Mormon

I've come to realize that those times in my life when I was most focused on myself I was least happy. While I try to focus on serving those around me, it is still very easy for me to focus on the problems in my life and revert back to my self-centered ways. Often times I begin to focus inward and become self-centered without even realizing what I am doing. Sometimes I will justify or rationalize my selfish behavior to excuse the way it effects the way I treat others. It is not until I realize that I have neglected those that I love the most that I realize I have once again become selfish and unhappy. The Gospel of Jesus Christ helps me to keep an eternal perspective and to focus on those things which matter most and will keep me most happy. It helps me to maintain and strengthen my relationship with my wife and with my family. When I live according to the teachings of the living Prophet and Apostles and the Book of Mormon I feel more love towards my friends and family. I treat them better and our relationships become more meaningful. These relationships truly become the greatest treasures of my life.

How I live my faith

Because of school, work, and other obligations I often don't have as much time as I would like to study the teachings of Christ. I feel success in finding small amounts of time to simply say a few prayers a day, read a few verses of scripture, and to use my commuting time to consider what I might do to be a better person today than I was the day before.
