Hi I'm Sarah

I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I love my family! I am a Mormon

About Me

I am a second generation latter-Day Saint and I am so grateful to my parents for searching and finding the true gospel of Jesus Christ and teaching it to me. I have been so blessed to receive my own personal witness of the truthfulness of the restored gospel as well. I served a mission to Warsaw, Poland for 18 months. I have an AMAZING husband and two BEAUTIFUL children! I am a stay-at-home MOMMY and I love every day of it!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by parents who had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when they were in college. They always taught us the gospel of Jesus Christ and followed the Prophet's counsel. When I was 14 I started to have questions and wanted to have my own personal witness of the truthfulness of this church. My dad told me to pray. So I did. For one month, everyday I prayed. I thought my answer wasn't coming, but then it did. The Spirit testified to my soul and from that moment on I have know that God knows me personally, that He loves me, and that this is the true church of Jesus Christ on the earth today, restored from when Christ was on the earth. My testimony has grown and grown through daily personal scripture study and prayer. I love going to church and I feel so good when I keep the commandments. I am so grateful God has blessed me with a strong testimony of His truth. I want to return to Him someday with my family and I know it is possible.

How I live my faith

I just finished a calling serving the women in the church. It was so wonderful. I was over the monthly activities and had so much fun. I am now serving the young children ages 3-11. I am excited to learn how to teach the gospel effectively and creatively to children. I also get to go into the homes of three different sisters each month and get to know them better and teach them the gospel of Jesus Christ. Every Monday night my family does a lesson on a gospel topic and then an activity to help us grow closer as a family. I love to see my almost 2-year old learn to recognize and say "Jesus" and to fold his arms to pray. My husband and I also read scriptures and pray together everyday to keep our marriage strong. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ and how it blesses all aspects of my life.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Sarah
I feel the Spirit when I read my scriptures and It helps remind me to repent, be a more patient, loving wife and mother, to live my life more in line with God's teachings, and helps me know the doctrine and principles of the gospel better. It also keeps my testimony strong and vibrant and helps me have peace in my daily life. I have come to love reading my scriptures everyday and never ever want to miss it. It is my personal time to draw near to my Savior! Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Sarah
We go to church every Sunday wearing semi formal clothing I would say. Men wear suits with ties, or at least slacks, shirts, and ties. Women wear nice modest skirts, shirts, sweaters, and or dresses. We love, invite, and accept any who come out, whatever they wear. However, we do hope to remember and help others remember that it is God's house and we are there to worship Him who created us and gives us every blessing we have, so we want to show the proper respect. I love to dress up for church. It is really easy now that I am so used to it. We celebrate, most importantly, Christmas and Easter because Jesus Christ is the head of this church, we love Him, and owe our lives to Him. We are so thankful we celebrate His birth, life, and death. He is everything to us. We celebrate regional and national holidays as well as all the personal holidays like birthdays, anniversaries, and such. Holidays add so much excitement and fun traditions to life! Can husband and wife be together forever? Do you believe that families will live together in heaven?

Sarah
YES! YES! YES! The Lord is so kind to us! He allows us if we are faithful to be with our families for eternity. No matter what happens to us--death, disease, distance--we know that if we are sealed together by the proper priesthood power in the temple that nothing can tear us apart. It is such a blessing t my marriage to have that eternal perspective. All problems are small enough that they can be worked out if we are both working toward that eternal goal. It also helps me realize that I am raising God's children and preparing them to be sealed to their families. It puts much more responsibility on me to personally be faithful to God's commandments so I can be a righteous example for my husband and children. Plus, it makes my role as a mother so so so important because if I do all I can to teach and love these children, then they can be mine forever. What a true gift. My family means more to me than anything. I also love wholeheartedly my siblings and parents and feel so blessed that they are striving to follow the Savior so we can all be together forever as well. The sealing power that God has given to man to be used on the worthy in His holy temples is the most amazing power on earth. It truly can bind all of us to our ancestors and posterity for eternity. I know it is true with all my heart. Show more Show less

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Sarah
Because the Lord commanded it. That is the main reason. The other reasons I can think of include there were more righteous women than men and all of them needed to be take care of, they wanted to be sealed so they could have eternal life with God and needed a righteous spouse in order to do so, so the church could grow and there could be a righteous posterity to carry it forward to the world, and because the Lord restored all things in this dispensation and polygamy was a part of that. It still is a hard doctrine for me to fully grasp because I love my husband so much and would not want to share him. However, as I have been studying it I have come to the conclusion that God is at the helm. He sees all. He knows all. He loves us deeply. And if He commanded it, then it was what was right for the church at that time. I know enough that if I trust Him and follow Him always, only then can I be sure that everything will work out best for me. I know he wants what is best for His children. Show more Show less

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Sarah
NO. NO NO. At a time in the early church the Lord commanded some of the righteous men to practice polygamy, but since 1890 it has been entirely stopped and anyone who practices this is not affiliated with the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Lord says one man, one woman, and that is what we do! I am so grateful. Show more Show less
