Hi I'm Steven

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I are the parents of five living children, with one in heaven. Our family is rather unique with our oldest son being married with two children; and we have a four year-old daughter, a six year-old adopted son, a 14 year-old ninth grader, and a 23 year old daughter who is in college. More than anything I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking the mountains of Idaho, Wyoming, and Washington, and taking a lot of pictures. Our adopted son is African-American and we enjoy the blessing and challenges of being a mixed race family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young person I relied on the faith of my parents, but overtime I gradually gained my own understanding and testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ. I have an abiding faith that He is the Creator of this world, the Jehovah of the Old Testament, and the literal Son of God. I know he appeared to the boy prophet Joseph Smith and restored His Church in these latter days. I am grateful that his atonement, death, and resurrection will bring salvation to all mankind and eternal life to those who love and serve him. I am grateful for fullness of the gospel found in the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon, a second witness of Jesus Christ. Within the teachings of the Lord's Church I find peace in troubled times and the lessons in life that help me raise a family that I believe will be together forever.

How I live my faith

Each day I strive to live according to my own personal mission or purpose statement, which is: Cheerfully live today as if He is coming tomorrow. I do this by: 1. Being a patient and kind husband and father 2. Practicing J.O.Y. -- Jesus first, others second, myself third 3. Finding the good in each person and situation 4. Taking time to be still and to listen for His voice 5. Treating my body as a temple 6. Living with integrity, always 7. Trusting in Him I live my faith trough daily study of Lord's word, personal prayer, and service. In today's busy times and information overload, it is easy to become distracted and to lose site of the basic teachings of Jesus Christ. The simple commandments of “"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind" and "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" serve as my daily guide to peace. I currently work as an administrator in one of the LDS Church colleges. In my daily interaction with students I see great young people striving to live Christian lives, with aspirations of returning to a Heavenly Father who granted them life. I learn from valiant youth who will not yield to temptations of the world. Most of all, I am inspired by those who selflessly follow the Savior's example of service. In the church I serve as teacher sharing my knowledge and love for the Lord.
