Hi I'm Ken
I'm a self employed business man who loves climbing mountains, walking on beaches and Ice Cream. I'm a Mormon.
My work takes me all over the island of Ireland. That's the part I like the most. Beautiful country with weather that can be "All Four Seasons In One Day"... I'm a keen hill walker and met my wife on a mountain leadership course. We are now 2 plus 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I love being a dad and a grandad.
I have always searched for truth and the meaning or purpose of life. After many years searching, reading the bible , and finding out about other churches and religions I came to the conclusion that there was no church that represented the teachings of Jesus Christ from what I had read in the bible. So I decided not to join any church but to bring my children up according to what I understood was correct from the bible. I also felt that drinking and smoking were not good for me or a good example to my children and decided that from 1st January 1989 I would never drink or smoke again. On the 6th of January 1989 two missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints knocked on my door. My wife invited them in to speak with me as I had other people in from other churches regularly enough. I had never heard of this church before. We spoke for about an hour and they gave me a copy of the Book of Mormon and asked me to read it and pray to know if it was true. They then asked when they could come back to see me but I told them they could not, that if I needed them I would find them. They left, and as soon as they had I started to read from the Book of Mormon. As I read I felt whole and fulfilled and I knew that the Book of Mormon was the word of God and that it was the missing piece of the jigsaw that I had been looking for. I had found the true Church of Jesus Christ upon the earth. But I wanted to do as the missionaries had asked and so I knelt and prayed and asked God in the name of His Son if the Book of Mormon was true and I received a powerful witness from that it is the word of God. I prayed that the missionaries would come back and they did the next day. I was baptised on the 26th January 1989 and it has been the best decision I have ever made in my life.
My faith in Jesus Christ is really important to me. I help out with service projects in the church and in the community. Through this I have come to know that what Jesus teaches is true. There is great happiness and joy to be found in helping others in need and I also find that helping others enables me to focus on the things that matter most in life. I also learnt this lesson by example from aunts of mine who looked after my family when my parents died. There were six children aged from 2 to 16 and my aunts gave up their lives to look after us and keep us together as a family. This was not easy for them as they were single and in their forties at the the time. Before they died my brother and I had the opportunity to thank them for what they had given up but they told us that they had given up nothing and gained everything. They were real examples to me of Christlike love and sacrifice for others.
