What is the Law of Chastity?
The power to create children is very sacred. Our Father in Heaven has commanded that the sacred power and privilege of sexual relations be exercised only between a man and woman who are legally married. This is the law of chastity. It means that we must not have sexual relations before we are married, and after we are married we should have sexual relations only with our husband or wife.
Keeping the law of chastity brings safety, happiness, peace, and self-respect. It also deepens married love and protects families. Breaking this law is serious. But those who have broken it can gain forgiveness and peace through repentance and obedience.
God wants the best for you and for all of His children. Following God’s plan of reserving intimacy for marriage will help you and your family be happy.
I know that Heavenly Father has given revelation for the entire church for what is now called "The Family: A Proclamation to the World." The sacred power of procreation should only be used between a man and a woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. In today's world, this special power is being misused. One of the ten commandments is "thou shalt not commit adultery." This statement rings true to even those who aren't married yet. Premarital sexual relations is breaking that covenant with God. Doing so is adulterous towards one's future spouse. Those who keep the law of chastity will be blessed and be happy. Those who have broken this commandment can seek forgiveness through obedience to the law and repentance through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Show more
The law of chastity is very simple. It simply is to have no sexual relations outside of the marriage between a man and a woman, husband and wife. This includes arousing those feelings on purpose in other ways than just having sex. It is one of the greatest sins to break the law of chastity because when we do so we are abusing the power that God has given us to create life. If you have broken the law of chastity you can repent. Even though confessing to the bishop can be embarrassing, it is better than giving up eternal happiness. The bishop is held accountable temporally to not tell anyone and spiritually before God to not tell anyone what you tell him. Show more
The Law of Chastity is God's command to keep ourselves pure in thought, word and behavior. Specifically, it means that sexual relations are sacred and shared only between husband and wife. The Law of Chastity has blessed my life immensely. When this law is broken the results can be painful--unwanted pregnancy, disease, divorce, betrayal and sadness. When the law is kept the blessings are fidelity, peace, trust and strong marriage and family. Show more
The law of chastity is something very very sacred and special. Our Heavenly Father has privilidged us with the ability to create life and help bring his children into this world. The law of chastity means that any and all sexual relationships are between a legally married man and women. Heavenly Father is very happy with us when we keep this law. If we break it we can be forgiven it is a very hard process but can be done because of our Heavenly fathers love for us he has made that possible. It brings him great joy when we follow his commandments and he will bless us for it. Show more
The Law of Chastity is an expression of Love and Respect and Responsibility. The power to create children is immense and eternal, and is a gift from God. Simply put, the Law of Chastity is to not have sexual relations outside of marriage, and to make sure that such relations inside marriage are an expression of love, not lust. The power to create life, and the means by which we can do so, we believe to be sacred. We believe that the soul consists of the spirit and body of human kind, so when we engage in such relationships, it goes far beyond a physical appetite. It is the uniting of two Souls, spiritually and physically. And that is why we believe so strongly that the Law of Chastity be followed; to show the utmost love, and respect, for each other and the power of procreation that God has given us. Show more

This is God's law on how we are to conduct ourselves in our sexual relationships. It's very straightforward. Sexual relations are to be had only between a man and a woman who have been legally married. Now in the world, there are people who say that it's impossible to control the powerful sexual urges that we experience, especially while we are young. While these desires are sometimes hard to control, this type of reasoning is a thinly-veiled excuse to be promiscuous. It's dead wrong. God wouldn't give us anything that's impossible to control. Period. He knows that these feelings are powerful, however, which is why He wants us to use the power of procreation within established bounds. I would like to point out another variety of flawed logic. That is that this is a restrictive law and that we can't have "fun" of be "free" if we have someone telling us that we shouldn't have sexual relations whenever, however, and with whomever we please. In reality, we are more free and more joyful when we keep the law of chastity. Think for a minute about the damage that it causes in families when a man or woman cheats on their spouse. Think about the diseases that would be prevented or minimized if we lived this law. Think about the guilt and fear we experience after being sexually active on a date or in a casual setting. Truly God knows what He's talking about when he commands us to abstain from all sexual relationships outside of a legal marriage between a man and a woman. Show more

Because God is our Heavenly Father, and we are all His children, He wants us to learn, grow, and improve. This life on Earth is only one phase of our eternal journey. The more we learn about the attitudes and ways of God, and the more we try to live them in our lives, the better we become. The most important attribute taught by Jesus Christ and His messengers (prophets and apostles) through the ages is to love God and love each other. However, many people have taken this basic idea of love and come up with their own ideas about what it means. Fortunately, Heavenly Father has given us the Law of Chastity to help us better understand how we should love each other. Our love for God, for example, is different than the way we love our parents, which in turn is different from love for siblings, or friends, or spouse, or children--or even hobbies, work, or other interests. The Law of Chastity focuses on romantic love, because this is the kind of love that leads to childbirth. God wants us to take special care with this kind of love, because the most important kind of creation we can do in life is forming and raising children. If we prepare for the marriage relationship, then make and keep promises with our spouse, our children will have a much better chance of succeeding in the challenges of life. No doubt the most important preparation we can make as individuals, is learning about God--what He's like, what He expects of us in life, and then pledge to follow His instructions the best we can. If we learn how to respect, honor, and love God, we'll be ready to show the kindness, caring, forgiveness, and wisdom that lead to a successful marriage (all parts of the Law of Chastity). As we practice loyalty, first to God, then to our spouse, we can build the strong trust, and the type of love that can help us through the storms of life. We can build a marriage that our children will respect and honor. With a lot of faith and a lot of effort, we can then help them to prepare for the big day when they choose a special loved one to join them in life's adventure. Show more

The Law of Chastity, is simply no sexual relations with anyone before your married.God has given us the power to create life. How sacred of a calling is that? He trust us enough to bring his children to this earth. He wants them to go to good homes; just as anyone would if they were sending their child somewhere to live (without them.) If we decide not to live the The Law of Chastity it can affect our posterity negatively. We never know what the circumstances will be if we decide not to live this law however I can testify that the Law of Chastity has really blessed my life. As i got older this commandment wasnt that of an easy one to live, however looking back on my High School years, I rejoice in the choices I made. Because I made the decision to follow this commandment so long ago, In times where I could have made mistakes I already knew what my decision was. Our Father in Heaven has promised us blessings of peace, self respect, happiness, and love when we keep this commandment. I have seen all of these blessings in my life, from keeping this commandment. I have and will remain sexually clean until the day I am married to my husband. It has brought me comfort to know that I have saved this gift for someone who I will spend the rest of my life with. In my eyes the best gift you could give your spouse on your wedding day is just that, a clean body and a clean mind. God knows what will bring us TRUE happiness, I can testify to you that this commandment will do just that. Show more
