What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?
The Holy Ghost can bless your life in many ways. Christ promised His Apostles that the Holy Ghost would “teach you all things” (John 14:26) and “guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). He also said that the Holy Ghost “shall testify of me” (John 15:26).
Likewise, the Holy Ghost can help you. Through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, you can recognize and understand truth and make right choices and inspired decisions.
The Holy Ghost can inspire you with thoughts and ideas, warn you, and comfort you in times of sorrow.
You may have already felt His influence at times in your life. That influence includes “love, joy, [and] peace” (Galatians 5:22).]
Almost everyone has felt the Holy Ghost at some time. But there is a difference between experiencing the occasional influence of the Holy Ghost and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Although the Holy Ghost may temporarily comfort someone or reveal truth to them, the gift of the Holy Ghost is reserved for those who have been baptized and confirmed into Christ’s Church. This gift is the privilege of enjoying the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost conditional upon keeping the commandments.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is given when a person is confirmed a member of the Church after baptism by someone having priesthood authority from God. It is given by the person having authority laying their hands upon the head of the person who was baptized and giving them a blessing to receive the Holy Ghost (Acts 8:14-18). Whether or not we then receive this great gift depends on our keeping the commandments of God.
The Holy Ghost is a divinely appointed companion who can accompany us through life. He will draw near to all who are seeking truth, but earning his constant companionship requires obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. In this life we are not much different than the Ugly Duckling from the children's story by this name by Hans Christian Anderson. We are born into an environment and a society that is different from who we are inside. We are born with an eternal spirit within us. That spirit brings with it divine attributes, similar to those attributes that Jesus Christ exemplified when he was on earth. But our society, in general, embraces many attributes that are earthy, not divine. Just as the Ugly Duckling did not fit in, because of his heritage, so it is with mankind. As children of God, we do not fit into this earthy existence, because of our heritage. The Holy Ghost is like the Swan, who shared the same heritage as the Ugly Duckling. As a heavenly being, the Holy Ghost shares a divine heritage with us. With His companionship we are constantly reminded who we really are, and what our true potential is. As we embrace the Gift of the Holy Ghost we begin to develop heavenly attributes. The apostle Paul described some of those attributes when he said: "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance..." In this way, the Holy Ghost will help us reach our divine potential. Show more
The Holy Ghost has so many roles in our lives - He is a comforter in times where we have need of Heavenly help, a testifier of the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a constant companion on the path of life as long as we invite His presence. We all have the capability of feeling the comfort, peace, and guidance that He can give us. When we are confirmed as members of the Lord's church on the earth and are blessed with the gift of the Holy Ghost, we make a promise with our Heavenly Father to live the principles of His gospel and receive in return the possibility of having His Spirit with us at all times if we are living in such a way that encourages His presence. When we have the influence of the Holy Ghost in our lives, we can be comforted by the truths of which He can testify to us and the love of our Father in Heaven that He can communicate to us. One of the greatest blessings that we can experience through the gift of the Holy Ghost is that of divine direction in our lives. As we pray to our Heavenly Father to guide our lives, His Spirit can impress upon us promptings and feelings of comfort and direction so that we can better know how to follow the path that God has for us and feel the peace of God's love along the way. The chief blessings are peace and confidence regarding the testimony of Jesus. In addition, one can receive a greater capacity for love, hope, faith, kindness, temperance, and so forth. The Holy Ghost can enhance the capacity to learn and remember things of importance, and provides guidance during times of trouble or worry. Spiritual gifts, including gifts of healing, toungues and revelation also come through the Gift of the Holy Ghost when they are required to further the work of the Lord on earth. Show more

After individuals are baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints they receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is a personage of Spirit, and is a member of the Godhead, and can be our constant companion if we remain worthy. The Godhead includes 3 separate beings: Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Having the Gift of the Holy Ghost brings about many blessings, such as, comfort, love, direction for our lives, confirmation of choices we make, peace, joy, warnings of danger, and knowledge of the truth. I have found the gift of the Holy Ghost to be of great worth in my life. I can think of countless times where he has helped guide and direct me. Specifically what comes to mind now is the help I have received and continue to receive in regards to my children. There have been so many times where I have been on my knees praying for answers on how to help my children with some difficulty, or to help me understand them, what to say to them and the list goes on. I have felt the answers come late at night, while sweeping my floor or simply when sitting in a room with a stubborn teenager that is unwilling to talk. Sometimes it comes as thoughts of what I need to do or say. Other times just an overwhelming peaceful feeling that my Heavenly Father is aware and all will work out. I can't imagine having to raise children without the guidance of the Holy Ghost and will forever be grateful for the help I have received and know I will continue to receive as long as I continue to seek that help. Through the Holy Ghost, one can receive direct and personal revelation from God. The Holy Ghost can tell you in your heart and mind what is true. God's truth is eternal and the Holy Ghost is the messenger. If you want to know what He wants for you, try following His ways and listen to the Holy Ghost's promptings. What a tremendous blessing it is to constantly have the Holy Ghost with you and hence it is called the gift of the Holy Ghost. This means you can feel His companionship and promptings all the time. it can comfort in times of stress, it can calm in times of trial and hardship, it can enlighten in times of confusion or indecision, it can warn in times of danger, it can confirm testimony and knowledge and it can enhance in times of joy and happiness. I am thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost because it is with His help that I can better live the gospel each day as a mother, a wife, and a friend. Show more
The Holy Ghost wants us to be perfect. He doesn't just tell us things to bring us closer to God. He tells us things that will make us happy. That means, he might help up remember our 3 o'clock appointment or prompt us to fill up the gas tank before going to bed. He helps us know truth when we see it. I can't explain how he makes you feel, but you'll know when you feel it. The gift of the Holy Ghost is not temporary help from when we need it most. It's a promise to ALWAYS have his help no matter how trivial our matters may be. Show more

So many blessings can come as I have had the Holy Ghost in my life. Before I was baptized, I could only feel the Holy Ghost come and go, but when I was baptized I have been able to consistently make choices that I know are good because I when I do I feel at peace and the Holy Ghost confirms to me that I have made a decision that is right. On the contrary, I have been able to know when I have done something that is wrong. I don't feel good inside and I am not able to feel the Holy Ghost with me. He can't be with me if I am not making choices that are pleasing to God. I am so grateful for this gift I have been given and know that it is something that has greatly blessed my life. Show more
