The story of Christmas
Joseph, Mary, and Jesus

Joseph, a carpenter, brought his wife Mary to the town of Bethlehem to take part in a census. Mary was “great with child,” soon to miraculously give birth to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (See Luke 2:1-6)

No room in the inn

Because  all of the inns were full, Joseph and Mary stayed in a stable. Mary gave birth to Jesus “and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger.” (See Luke 2:7)

Glad tidings

Angels appeared to nearby shepherds with “glad tidings of great joy.” The angels told them the Son of God had been born, and they hurried to find their newborn Savior. (See Luke 2:8-16.)

The Wise Men

Later, Wise Men from the East were guided by a new star in the heavens to find Jesus. They “fell down, and worshipped him” and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (See Matthew 2:1-12)

Christmas today

We often give Christmas presents today, but the most important part of Christmas is remembering Jesus Christ, who was born long ago to save us all. (See Matthew 1:21)

Christmas in the ancient Americas

As the Wise Men were celebrating the birth of a newborn king in the Holy Land, another group of people were also celebrating this remarkable event on the other side of the world. The Book of Mormon tells their story.
