Three Tips for Living a More Spiritual Life

By Mormon.org
Living Spiritually Means Serving, Growing, Believing, Observing and Trusting. Hope on. Journey on. - Elder Jeffrey R. Holland in his talk; Lord, I Believe

We consist of two parts: a body and a soul. The body must be fed, exercised, cleaned, clothed, worked and refreshed. Caring for the body is vital, but to achieve balance, the spirit must be fed too.

Here are three tips to feed your spirit and live a more spiritual life:

Serve and Grow

Service to others is the quickest way to lift your own soul. By serving we become happier, distance ourselves from our own perceived hardships, obtain a connection with God and draw closer to where He is. If you’re in need of a spiritual pick-me-up, look for someone to serve. You won’t be disappointed in how it expands your soul.

Believe and Trust

Belief is an essential part of spirituality. It is the first step toward witnessing small miracles in your life. If you believe that you’re able to receive spiritual guidance and begin acting on enlightening thoughts that come to you, you’ll learn to trust deeply in the unseen part of you. You will become more spiritually satisfied. Through belief we become connected to God.

You can receive answers to your prayers. Comfort can be found in knowing that you’re not alone in your trials. Trust that there is a God who patiently waits for you to ask Him for guidance. He will respond to you in unique ways that feel very personal. It’s worth experimenting on. Jesus Christ taught his disciples about prayer saying the following: “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” (Matthew 21:22)

Quiet moments are essential if we desire to increase our spirituality. Take time for solitude. If we never remove ourselves from the noise and busyness of the world, we may miss timely spiritual thoughts that will potentially direct us to more happiness and fulfillment in our lives.

Observe and Study

Look for others who seem to have incorporated peace and happiness into their lives. People who have achieved greater spirituality generally find great joy in sharing their experience with others. Don’t be afraid of asking someone about his or her spiritual practices. They’ll be complimented that you noticed and likely proceed to share valuable insights.

Wise spiritual counsel can be found in many books. Grant yourself a few minutes each day to read scriptures. Inspired words have the power to increase understanding of the nature and origin of your spirit. You may discover answers to your deepest questions.
