Standing Together as Sisters. By Jamielyn Nye

By Jamielyn Nye

When I first started my blog several years ago, I remember spending hours creating, photographing, and editing my posts. I had very few readers at the time and hardly any comments. I remember getting my first comment and being so excited, only to find out it was someone tearing me down. They commented on how they thought the recipe looked gross and the pictures were awful. I remember feeling so discouraged after reading that comment that I decided I obviously was not cut out to be a blogger.

Spread love wherever you go.

After a few weeks went by without a new post going up, I received an email from a caring reader I didn’t even realize I had. She told me that she really missed seeing my posts and that she was so inspired by my blog that she started her own etsy shop that was now helping support her family. After I read that short yet sweet email, my perspective totally changed. I realized I had in fact touched someone’s life and that I wanted to inspire more. I decided from that day forward that I was going to add a positive influence on the Internet. I also made it a priority to be kind to everyone in this online space. We need to stand together and lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. Let’s choose to spread more love. That is what our Heavenly Father wants us to do.

Some days, I’m amazed at how many negative comments I see across the web—whether it’s someone commenting on a Facebook post that they don’t agree with another person’s parenting method, on a blog post, or on an Instagram photo. Some days it can be quite depressing looking at social media. The adversary loves seeing women be judgmental and critical of one another, and we need to make it stop so that he cannot win. We need to stick together and help lift each other up. We need to show more love and strive to become more like the Lord.

"Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight." -Gordon B. Hinckley

I love this quote from Gordon B. Hinckley: “I am asking that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life we ‘accentuate the positive.’ … What I am suggesting is that each of us turn from the negativism that so permeates our society and look for the remarkable good among those with whom we associate, that we speak of one another’s virtues more than we speak of one another’s faults, that optimism replace pessimism, that our faith exceed our fears.”

At the end of the day I truly believe each of us is trying our very hardest to do what is best for our families. All of us are going to have different strategies that work for us and varying trials throughout our life. That is what this life is all about. But we need to stand together as sisters. I couldn’t make it through this life without some of the women in my life, and I’m so grateful that I have their love and support.

“To be sisters implies that there is an unbreakable bond between us. Sisters take care of each other, watch out for each other, comfort each other, and are there for each other through thick and thin,” said Bonnie L. Oscarson.

Let’s make a promise to look out for each other.

Let’s lift each other up and applaud each other’s success.

Let’s focus on the good in one another.

Together, let’s make a difference.
