Other Mothers: Influential Women In Our Lives
Everyone born on this earth has a mother. Yet mothers are not the only women who influence our lives for good. Many of us have had important mother-figures that have played crucial roles in teaching, defining, and shaping our character—they are our “Other Mothers.”
“Other Mothers” may or may not be mothers in the traditional sense, but through loving hearts and willing hands, they become valuable lifelong influences to individuals, classes, schools, teams, communities, and families.
It isn’t hard for most of us to think of a woman we love who exerted a positive influence on our lives. Someone who helped us as we stood at a crossroads in our lives or showed us how to look at things differently. It might have been a favorite aunt who made us feel accepted, a teacher who went that extra time to inspire, or a neighbor who always had an open door and ready smile.
This Mother’s Day, we invite you to remember the important influence and love you’ve received from your Other Mothers. Our lives are richer and our hearts deeper for the varied and wonderful love we’ve received from Other Mothers.
Reach out. Let those who have effected and changed your life for the better know of their influence in your life. You might just make their day, too!
