Preserving Memories with Homemade Jam

Summertime is a special season. School is out, the days are long, the nights are warm, vacations are abundant, and memories are the best. It’s a season when we can spend more time than usual with the ones we care about most. But—if you can believe itthis summer is almost halfway over, and it always flies by faster than we want it to.

On social media, Mormon.org is hosting the #73Days of Summer—an awesome resource for daily ideas to enrich, strengthen, and build up your family relationships this summer. Ideas for this week include


David O. McKay once said, “Let us be more determined to make [righteous] homes, to be kinder husbands, more thoughtful wives, more exemplary to our children, determined that in our homes we are going to have just a little taste of heaven here on this earth.”

Personalities within an individual family can sometimes be a quirky blend of sweet and sour, but when combined in the right amounts and in the right way, they can be wonderful. Take the sugar, fruit, and lemon juice of your family and taste heaven together—by making homemade jam!

Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart hulled fruit or berries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor, process the fruit until coarsely chopped.
  2. Transfer to a large skillet and stir in sugar and lemon juice. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until jam is thickened and bubbles completely cover the surface (9–10 minutes).
  3. Transfer the jam to a jar and let it cool to room temperature. (To store, seal the jar and refrigerate for up to 10 days).
