3 Life Lessons Learned from the Prophet Job

By Mormon.org

The Bible is a source of truth and knowledge. Within this book are many life lessons that help us deal with life’s challenges. A few of these lessons come from the experience of a prophet named Job, who despite many trials was consistently faithful and obedient to God. Here are just a few things we learn from the life of Job.

1. Bad things happen to good people

Despite living a righteous and obedient life, Job was met with many trials, including the loss of property and of all his children. Even Job’s friends started accusing him of being a wicked man; they insisted that his trials and hardships were a punishment from God.

Job didn’t let the setbacks of life discourage him or weaken his faith. We won’t always know the reasons why hardships enter our life or why bad things happen to us. Having the knowledge that trials can be a source of strength and experience helps us face our trials. Through these experiences we are able to better understand our relationship with God and build our confidence in His plan for us.

2. Death is not the end

Job poses the question, “If a man die, shall he live again?” (Job 14:14). Because Jesus Christ paid the price for our sins, died for us, and was resurrected, we all will live again. Knowing that death is a part of God’s plan and not the end of our existence gives us hope and increased purpose.

3. Love God

When in the most pain and when death seemed certain, Job boldly declared his love for God and that he would always love God. There are many ways we can show our love to God. Through serving others and obeying God’s commandments, we not only show God we love Him but also help others feel God’s love through us. In the end Job was blessed immensely for his faithfulness and dedication to living a righteous life, a life that showed his love for God. We too will receive blessings from our loving Heavenly Father as we show our love to Him.
