3 Reasons The Holy Bible Is Relevant Today

The King James Version of the Holy Bible - 3 Reasons the Bible Is Relevant Today

Change is constant. We live in a fast-paced world where the speed of technology continues to grow at an exponential rate.

In this world where convenience and speed seem to supersede substance, how can a book that is over 3 millennia old still have relevance and application?

Many will argue that the Holy Bible contains commandments that are outmoded and outdated, a relic of a bygone era that that now has little or no contemporary application. Society and civilization have evolved, they say, and so have the definitions of what is considered “right” and “moral.”

But, others argue, truth is unchanging and constant. It is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Mormons believe in the Holy Bible. They revere it as the word of God. In its pages you can find principles that have the power to change lives still today. It has relevance in today’s society and in your personal life. Consider these three principles it teaches that can be applied in your life today:

1. The Holy Bible teaches that there is a God, and that God loves everyone

God sent Jesus Christ to earth to provide a way to overcome our sins and imperfections. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16).

2. The Holy Bible teaches that you should act peaceably with and serve one another

While Jesus Christ was on earth, a man asked him, "Which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus replied,

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" (Matthew 22:36-40).

Jesus Christ teaches us to focus on loving God and loving the people around you. When you serve God by serving other people, you can feel the happiness of connecting with them. In this way, God often allows you to be the answer to someone else’s prayers.

3. The Holy Bible teaches how you can find happiness in your life

Jesus Christ said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). As you turn to Him and follow His commandments, you will feel His love. The closer you draw to Jesus Christ, the more you know God is aware of you. God has a plan of happiness for everyone. With Christ’s help, you can return to live with Him again. This gives you a broader perspective and helps you face life’s challenges.

Holy scripture will always have personal application, and will never become irrelevant or outdated, because it addresses the universal needs of all people—how to come to know God, how to interact well with others, and how to know how the Lord would have you live your life to be happy and content. Change is the only constant in this world, and society will continue to evolve and transform, but the eternal truths in the Holy Bible transcend earthly time and circumstance, and when we live according to them we can find hope, healing, happiness, and peace.
