For God So Loved the World

By Mormon.org
Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus Christ.

Nothing quite compares to giving the perfect gift. It is a pure expression of love from one person to another. Giving gifts requires effort to determine needs and wants. The cost of the perfect gift may be high at times; it may even require sacrifice. But when the perfect gift is given, the joy of both giver and receiver makes the effort worthwhile.

Our Father in Heaven loves us immensely as His children. And so He delights in giving us gifts (see Matthew 7:7–11). His greatest gift, His Son, Jesus Christ, reflects that love, guiding us through our lives and providing a path to return to Him someday. In John 3:16 we read, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Witness God’s love for His children in this video about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ offers to lift the poor, heal the brokenhearted, deliver the captive, and bear our burdens. He teaches love, shows us the way, and covers our sins if we come to Him. He gives light to those in darkness and promises eternal life to those who choose to accept Him.

Just as we hope the gifts we give are received and cherished, our Father desires us to receive the gift He has given us. We do this as we learn of the Savior, listening to His words and choosing to follow His teachings (see D&C 19:23). Each time we make an effort to come to know the Savior better and follow Him, we are expressing our appreciation and love for our Father in Heaven for the perfect gift He has given us.
