God, our Heavenly Father, the greatest of all creators, has given each of us, His children, the incredible ability to create. The scriptures teach us about our Heavenly Father’s creative nature:

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27).

“And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten” (Moses 1:33).

Many associate creativity with activities like painting, music, or writing. But creativity expands into all aspects of our lives.

“To many,” Elder Robert D. Hales says, “the word creativity simply refers to the cultural, performing, or visual arts. This is a very limiting definition. There are endless ways of applying creative reasoning.”

Creativity gives us flexibility in solving our own problems and creating new and unique ideas. Here are a few simple ways to help yourself spark your own creativity.

Simple Ways to Cultivate Creativity

Having a hard time getting your creativity going? Need some ideas on mixing up your routine? Try these suggestions.

  1. Clean your workspace. It can be hard to organize your thoughts when your physical space is in a chaotic state. Taking time to tidy up creates some peace of mind and helps you concentrate on creative processes.
  2. Listen to new music. Music can help change your mood and make you feel more creative. Experiencing new things adds variety into your life and enhances your creative processes.
  3. Meet new people. Sometimes it’s hard to step outside of your comfort zone, but forming new relationships also helps you form new ideas. You can learn a lot from talking to someone new and learning about their life.
  4. Spend time in nature. God is the great Creator. This earth is one of the most beautiful creations we have. Being in nature and taking time to appreciate the natural beauties around you helps you feel greater love and can spark some creativity.
  5. Read a book. Reading lights up your mind with new ideas and possibilities. Reading allows you to create stories and scenery in your mind; it sparks the imagination and can help you form new ideas.
