“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.”
—Cicero

We often think of the simple expressions of thanks as the ultimate in communicating gratitude. However, there are four simple ways to express gratitude that we sometimes forget.

1. Pray

First, express your gratitude to God for all that He has given you. His Son, Jesus Christ, is the ultimate example and teaches us to give thanks to God in all things. Express your thanks to God through prayer. Learn more about the importance of prayer here. Not sure how to pray? Learn more here.

2. Say Thanks

Second, express your gratitude for those in your life. Recognize the people who help and serve you, and remember say "Thank you!" Write a note, make a phone call, or pay a visit but remember to express gratitude for kind gestures with a kind gesture.

3. Serve

Third, take the opportunity to serve. A popular religious hymn explains that because we have been given much, we too must give. Even if you feel that you have nothing to give, the best way to show gratitude to God is to serve His children. As you serve, you can show you are grateful for what you have and use your strengths to help others.

4. Obey

Fourth, follow the Savior, a perfect example of gratitude. You can learn more about Jesus Christ by reading the scriptures daily and obeying his teachings. Obedience is a great way to heed Christ’s words to “follow thou me” (John 21:22), and through obedience, we can show gratitude.
