3 Ideas for Spending Your Time This Summer. By Corina Sorensen

By Mormon.org

If you’re looking for some summer activities for your family, check out #73Days of Summer on Mormon.org’s Facebook page! Every day they post a new idea and feature all kinds of great ways to teach kids, invite the Spirit, increase communication and have fun together. This week’s activities include floating homemade popsicle boats, launching water rockets, building a bench, making candles and playing mini golf!

Summer has always been my favorite season. I love the warm weather and all of the fun activities that go with it. I love going to baseball games, eating shave ice, hiking, and having picnics. I love fireworks and carnivals and eating s’mores around a campfire.

Now that I’m a mom, I’m learning that it’s not about the funnel cakes or the score of the baseball game, but about the time I’m spending with my family while doing these things.

That being said, summer provides the perfect backdrop for endless amounts of fun activities and family time. Here are a few things I think every summer should include:

1. Outdoor Time

Whether you go on a quick hike or a big backpacking trip, go for a walk as a family, or get away for a few days and go camping, I think it’s important to make it a point to get outside and enjoy the beautiful things of the earth.

2. Tasty Food

Have a barbecue, get a shave ice, eat popsicles, or go on a picnic as a family. Enjoy a perfect watermelon or drink lemonade. Food is better in the summer, especially if it is shared with those you love.

3. Pictures of Your Fun Times

Document all of your fun family adventures. Photographs save memories. I love looking back at photos to remember past experiences. It usually leads to a desire to try new things and continue exploring.

My husband and I hope that we can teach our children to not only love tasty food and enjoy being outside but to know that spending time together as a family is one of the most important ways they can spend their time.
