The Story of the Birth of Jesus Christ

The story of the birth of Jesus Christ has been told from the beginning. God revealed to Adam the coming of “his Only Begotten Son, even him whom he declared should come in the meridian of time, who was prepared from before the foundation of the world” (Moses 5:57). Since that time, prophets have taught of the birth and mission of the Savior of mankind to point us continually to Him.

Sometimes, however, the commercialism and craziness of Christmas can draw our focus off the simple story of a baby, born in humble circumstances, destined to be the Savior of the world. During this Christmas season, take time to consider the following testimonies, from prophets ancient and modern, about the birth of Jesus Christ and its impact for us personally.

Living Prophets Testify

Consider the testimonies of these living prophets and apostles as they testify of the reality of the birth of Jesus Christ.

President Thomas S. Monson has taught: “Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, He came forth from heaven to live on earth as mortal man and to establish the kingdom of God. His glorious gospel reshaped the thinking of the world. He lived for us, and He died for us.”

President Henry B. Eyring testifies: “The Savior came into the world with light designed to confirm and celebrate His arrival. … I bear my witness that God the Father lives and that He gave us the gift of His Beloved Son out of love for us. I know as surely as I live that the resurrected Savior lives. He atoned for our sins. And I testify that He is the Light of the World and the sure source of comfort, hope, peace, and joy. I pray with all my heart that we all will draw closer to Him, to feel the warmth of His light and love.”

President Uchtdorf encourages: “I pray that during this season and always, we will see the purity of the story of the Savior’s birth and feel sincere gratitude for His life, teachings, and saving sacrifice for us.”

Isaiah 9:6–7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son—of the Father because of me, and of the Son because of my flesh. And behold, the time is at hand, and this night shall the sign be given.
