A thankful heart sets us on a path to happiness. When we choose to be grateful, it’s like flipping a light switch in our minds that transforms negative thoughts into positive ones. Need a little help flipping the switch? Here you go:

  1. Simple Things—Have you ever felt gratitude for simple things like air, water, and sunlight? We don’t usually notice life-giving elements unless we’re deprived of them, but their existence allows us to continue to experience life. So, next time you take a deep breath, remember, gratitude is as easy as breathing.
  2. Nature—Nature in all its forms has power to soothe and comfort weary souls. From a quiet walk through the woods to the softness of a puppy in your arms,Mother Nature extends nurturing for our souls and provides opportunities to calm and awe us with her miracles.
  3. Family and Friends—Loneliness would eventually affect even the most introverted among us. We’re meant to enjoy the companionship and love of one another. It only takes a moment of considering what our lives would be like without the people we love to feel a surge of gratitude.
  4. A Body—A body, regardless of its shape or infirmities, allows your spirit to learn and have new experiences. Every moment your soul inhabits your body, the opportunity to learn, love, and spread goodness has been graciously extended.
  5. Talents—Let your light shine. The gifts and talents you’re given are as unique as your fingerprints. Discover and develop them and offer them to the world. Someone will thank you, and you’ll be grateful you did.
  6. Choice—Freedom to choose is an awe-inspiring gift. You can choose what you think, how you act, and ultimately who you become. God has trusted you enough to hand you the reins to your own destiny.
  7. Knowledge and Senses—Thankfully, knowledge can be gained in many ways. The remarkable senses of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste help us learn about our world and absorb vast amounts of information.
  8. Prayer—We can pray under the shining sun or in a torrential downpour. No matter when we do, we can be grateful to know someone is always listening and loving us.
  9. Jesus Christ—Whenever we don’t know what to do, we can’t overlook the blessing of having a perfect example to follow. The life of Jesus Christ gives us direction and frees us from the burden of sin.
  10. Acts of Kindness—Have you ever been grateful for a hug? Being the recipient of acts of kindness is almost as good as providing them. A smile, a note, kind words, or a pat on the back can turn someone’s day around.

Flip the switch and let more light into your life. You’ll be grateful you did.
