Hi I'm Ron
My name is Ron and I grew up in the western United States but spent most of my life raising our family in Texas. I am 58 years old, husband, father of two children with a passion for golf and space exploration. As far back as I can remember I have always been interested in space flight and was very fortunate to spend most of my career working to put men and women into space on the Space Shuttle. I enjoy reading history, especially biographies, and learning about other peoples' lives, challenges, and successes.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a convert to the church, having received a wonderful witness of truth about the gospel of Jesus Christ after graduating from college when I was 23 years old. I did not know much about the Book of Mormon but had studied the Bible off and on during my earlier years. I read the Book of Mormon and felt a familiar feeling of peace and love. It was energizing and electric for me to learn of the people described in the Book of Mormon and their experiences. I prayed and asked for guidance, received a personal witness of truth, and was baptized soon thereafter. It has been and continues to be a wonderful experience with my wife and children learning about Jesus Christ and following his example and teachings.
Could you talk about your baptism?
I was baptized when I was 23 years old after reading the Book of Mormon and being taught by wonderful Mormon missionaries. It was a defining moment in my life, a gateway to a new beginning following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ. After 35 years I still remember the excitement of being baptized and the peaceful feelings that accompanied that experience. I have been richly blessed since that day, developing many talents and experiencing personal growth through service to our friends and neighbors. It has been and continues to be a great journey.
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
Answers to my prayers have come in many different forms; emotional strength in the face of challenges, increased awareness and keenness of intellect when responding to mental tests, and physical protection during periods of calamity. But more importantly, I have felt the quiet assurance of safety and peace through following Jesus Christ and the guidance offered to those who sincerely seek His counsel.
How I live my faith
Service to others is truly the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church has provided me many opportunities to reach out and serve those in need of help or understanding. I have taught Sunday School to teenage young men and women, provided leadership to adult organizations, and assisted in the relief of others following hurricanes, floods, or personal tragedy. I try to live my faith with a kind word, a friendly face, and a helping hand. Now that my formal working career has ended, many more doors have opened to provide help and support.
