Hi I'm Brad
I was born in Tacoma, Washington, the 6th of 8 kids. I am an identical triplet and yes, I'm the oldest! w00t. I moved to St. Louis when I was 7 and I consider myself to be from St. Louis. St. Louis is a baseball town and I love everything about baseball, especially the Cardinals! My mother died when I was 12 years old. Not a day goes by that I do not miss her and think about her. I graduated high school near the top of my class and chose to go to Brigham Young University. I've wanted to go there for my whole life. It's where my parents met! I served a mission in the California Ventura mission for six months before I got sick and had to go home. I study Chemical Engineering and work in a research lab studying cobalt Fischer Tropsch catalysts. It's my great passion currently. I have been sick for the last few years and was recently diagnosed with SMA syndrome. It is a very rare chronic condition with only 500 cases confirmed. It has been a major part of my life and made me unable to do much. I have had to withdraw from classes, quit working and spend a lot of time in the hospital. That aside, I really enjoy my life. It definitely has not gone how I thought it would, but I thoroughly enjoy it and am grateful for every day, especially the days I am not in a hospital! Life is good!
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because I love the ability to have the Holy Ghost with me at all times. Having proper priesthood authority my Father gave me this gift when I was 8 years old after I was baptized. It is this gift that has helped me to deal with my mothers death when I was young, with the chronic illness I currently have, and everything else in my life. Granted, doctors and medicine have done their part and I cannot stress enough how important they have been to making these things more manageable. But in the private hours, when the meds don't seem to be doing enough, or the side effects are so intense, it is the Spirit that brings me strength, comfort, and knowledge that everything will be okay and that life is good.
How I live my faith
I live my faith by striving to feel the Spirit at all times. Being confirmed and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost to have it with me at all times, I strive to have it accompany me at all times. I go to church when I am healthy enough to get out of my house. I'm really sick a lot so I don't make it as often as I'd like. Going to the Temple is one of my favorite ways to live my faith and I'm grateful for the ability to do so. I live my life in such a way that I can always feels the spirit in the temple. I do not do many grand gestures or have any big epiphanies that help me to live my faith; it is the small and simple things every day that help me to do so. The thing I do most often is pray. I pray a lot during the day. I have developed a personal and intimate relationship with my Father in Heaven. I feel that I can talk to him whenever I want and that nothing is too trivial to bring to his attention. It's comforting to have such a place to turn for everything. I live my life in such a way that this is always open to me. It is a two way street. I receive guidance and help in my life as I pray and listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I am FAR from perfect, but being able to feel the Holy Ghost in my daily life lets me know that I am on the right track! :D
