Hi I'm Bob

About Me

I am a through-and-through California native - born, raised, educated (college too) all in this wonderful state. I taught math in the public schools in Antioch CA before retiring some years back. I've been to Europe twice, to Canada many times, and to 36 states. I believe travel by train is the best way to go. I enjoy the outdoors, believe Yosemite to be a place of incredible beauty, agree that Disneyland is the happiest kingdom on earth, like non-violent movies, enjoy sharing experiences with others of all ages, like working on my model railroad, and enjoy going to historical places and museums. My favorite reading is history. I believe that the most important decision in my life was agreeing to be baptized ; the daily blessings that I have received confirm that this is God's plan for me.

Why I am a Mormon

It all started with a ring of my doorbell. God knew that the time was ripe and He sent two elders who showed great patience, answered my questions and were honest. Every time I asked myself "Do you believe this?" or "Is this a commitment you can make?" the answer (sometimes after prayer) was "Yes." The video "The Restoration" was an important moment, from then on I had no question that the Book of Mormon was true and that Joseph Smith was the first prophet of the Restoration. From then on my heart and mind desired all that I could learn of the Church and I felt a spiritual warmth and contentment as I continued in my preparation. The event of my baptism and going to the Temple for baptisms for the dead brought me to even higher levels of happiness and further confirmation that I have correctly moved along on the path God laid out for me. The gospel of love, of the Father and our fellow man, has mellowed and eased my outlook on the world. The need to forgive all is a doctrine that initially was hard to follow but has become easier with practice and brings happiness far in excess of the effort required. I have come to a confirmed conclusion that there are no "coincidences", that everything happens for a purpose. It might not be evident right away, but the reason will be revealed in time. If one does what is right, things will work themselves out and be for the better.

Personal Stories

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

It is through prayer that I clear my mind, calm my spirit and work out difficulties with the help of the Holy Spirit. In prayer I ask for God's blessings for others, give thanks for the many blessings in my life, admit my errors and ask for forgiveness, give thanks for the Gospel of Christ to keep me on the path of righteousness, seek the guidance I need to deal with problems I face, and express my love of God.

How I live my faith

Having just completed 1 year in the church, I feel that my life is more full now than ever before. In fact today (Sunday) I attended church, taught my age 15 Sunday school, performed a sacrament at a home, did home teaching, and went with the elders to speak with an investigator. This is the most time I've yet to devote to my faith in a single day. Though it's past bedtime and I'm tired, I am still on a "spiritual high"and filled with the thankfulness for having been called to these opportunities to practice my faith.
