I am taking voice lessons and sing in MCO America. I have played and coached Volleyball, Basketball, T ball, and softball. I have cheated death a couple of times, once in High School and once about a year and a half ago. At this time I was helping my step sister who was suffering from the effects of multiple shoulder surgeries she became addicted to pain killers and was not going to live long. I enjoyed the connection we made and felt so much love and concern for her. During this time my shoulder began to hurt unbearably. I went to a doctor who prescribed a pain killer and sent me home. My pain intensified and because of a concerned brother, his wife, their back door neighbor, who had been an EMT in Afghanistan, and a blessing. I went to the hospital and was told that I had a serious infection and would need shoulder surgery. I had been determined to research any doctor if I were ever to have shoulder surgery. I didn't want to go through what my sister had. We couldn't reach my husband and I didn't have time to research my doctor. I was told it was an emergency and it had to be done right then. The doctor walked out for about a minute and the most peaceful feeling swept over me. The Spirit of God whispered I would have an infection that wasn't MRSA but that I would need the surgery and would be fine. I was told the infection had gone septic. I spent almost a week in the hospital. My loving nurse told me she was glad I made it. I had not realized how serious it was until then.
I grew up a member of the church. My ancestors had crossed the plains. I think that my testimony began when I was very young. I had this same Spirit of God whisper to me throughout my life. I was told where to find lost toys, was warned when there was danger, felt peace and comfort when I lost beloved pets and loved ones. My earliest spiritual memory was when I learned about paying tithing. My heart was full of happiness. That Spirit has warned me to slow down while driving down the street, helping me avoid hitting two deer one time and a herd of cows another. It has helped me find peace at times when terrible circumstances and sorrow overwhelmed me. I have been led to others who needed a friend and have learned to overcome many faults through the power of prayer. I am still working on many more of them. I have prayed for cars to work and they did. To have enough gas even though it was impossible and did. There were times I wondered if my prayers were being answered and now as I look back I realize that they were, maybe not the way I wanted them answered, but they were answered. I Know Jesus Christ is the Son of God that he lives, loves me and suffered for my sins, my mistakes, my hardships and sorrows. I have given to him my burdens and heartaches that seemed too much to bear. He has taken them from me and given me comfort and peace in return. My entire life I have sung. When I am sad I sing. When I am happy I sing. When I sing I feel the spirit and the love of my Heavenly Father. My greatest testimony is expressed more through music than words. When I sing I feel the touch of God, he comforts me and gives me a voice that helps him communicate his love to others--a voice I do not have without him. My greatest desire in life is to bring others peace and love. I desire to improve my voice and testimony through singing. I desire to share my love of my Heavenly Father with others because He has shared his great love and Son with me.
Praying together as a family in the morning, and at night praying together and reading scriptures. This is also a time we can connect with each others day. Family home evenings on Mondays also helps us share our talents with each other and helps us connect with the things in our lives that are most important. We have fun together and have important life lessons. Church time is a time we learn to be better parents and our children learn to be good to us and to their siblings. We eat together at least once a day. When we watch TV and read the scriptures we snuggle up together and enjoy the feeling of closeness. When we spend more time with our children we find that they have less anger and we learn more about their likes and dislikes. When there is anger we sit down together and discuss how we can improve the situation. We try to teach responsibility over blame. When I am feeling like I am getting upset I put myself in timeout. We are still working on having more harmony in the home. As we make harmony a priority we find that life gets better both inside the home and outside as well.
I have had the opportunity to help out in the many schools our children have attended. I have coached and played in city leagues, church leagues and summer camps. I have taught Kindergarten preparation classes as a volunteer. I have helped in community clean up programs. I have helped out and performed at senior centers. Volunteered with the Red Cross. Given blood. I have served as a missionary for our church three times. Twice as a youth missionary and once as a full time missionary. I throw my trash in garbage cans and recycle what I can. I rescue lost animals and help find their owners or a home. Our two dogs and a rabbit came from rescues. I have taught music to nursery kids, and primary kids. Have helped out with charity runs, and tried to serve the needy wherever I can. I love my neighbors. I walk with my dogs and later I walk with a friend to exercise and stay healthy. I have helped paint a house for an elderly neighbor. I have cleaned homes for those who couldn't and for many who were moving. I have helped many neighbors and friends pack up and move away. I love and miss them. I have also helped many neighbors unload and move in. I make a lot of mistakes but I try and improve and become a better person. I have tried to develop and improve my talents. I try to stay out of debt. I sing in church and community choirs. I have worked as a counselor and have helped out at AA meetings. Have worked with neighbors in their yards, served in the scouting and cub scouting programs. Wave and say hello to those I meet or pass by. I work on learning peoples names. Almost every year our family makes up plates of cookies, chocolate and white chocolate dipped berries, fruit, and candies and goes around the neighborhood caroling. We love our neighbors and enjoy their reactions when we carol at their doors. It is not uncommon for us to get requests and people asking us to come when they will be home. I pray, read the Bible and Book of Mormon and try to live accordingly.
