David: Mormon.

Hi I'm David

About Me

I am a husband of a wonderful wife and a father of three awesome daughters. I believe that families are forever, and my goal is to put family first as much as I can. My educational background is in engineering and chemistry, and I have been working in science most of my career. I love traveling and learning languages (Italian, French, Spanish, and trying Chinese). I love to run in just about any weather. My greatest joy comes from having fun and creating memories with my wife and daughters. My greatest satisfaction comes from learning new things and teaching others what I have learned.

Why I am a Mormon

The LDS Church teaches values that I tried to follow even before I became a Mormon. For instance, the Church teaches that families are eternal, and gives members great ideas on how to spend time together as a family. This helps family members grow close and love each other more. My wife and I decided to start a family well before I joined the Church. Even back then, I felt internally that I wanted to be the kind of husband and dad my family needed. Although I was - and still am - far from perfect, I felt that trying to do my best was my top priority. Upon becoming a Mormon, I learned that my wife and daughters and I will continue to be together after our time here on Earth has passed. And that my family efforts while here on Earth are preparing me for what lies ahead of me when I move on. I absolutely know that to be true. It makes me feel honored to help raise and guide my family, not unlike our Father is trying to raise and guide me. I also learned that the example I provide, and the values and morals that my wife and I teach our children, are reinforced by the examples and teachings my daughters experience from other members of our Church ward. It is so great to have a safe, positive, and loving environment into which my wife and I can bring our girls.

Personal Stories

How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?

Reading the Book of Mormon has taught me that God, my Father, loves and cares for me. I am His child. He loves me so much that he let me 'leave the nest' of His direct presence in Heaven so that I can face challenges through experiencing life on Earth. This is not unlike how my daughters will eventually leave home and go out to experience the world on their own. My purpose here on Earth, then, is to face temptations and trials, make choices, and experience successes and joys. Throughout all this, I must strive to follow His commandments. When I do, I will progress as a being. Then, when my time here on Earth is over, I will have become worthy to return to live with my Father again in Heaven. I will also be ready to take on the next purpose - the next mission - He has waiting for me.

How I live my faith

Each day, I try to follow my favorite scripture passage from the Book of Mormon: Jacob 2, verses 17-19. Without re-writing it here, I believe that it tells me to think of my brothers and sisters (the other people here on Earth) as I would think of myself. That is, we are all connected. You, the reader of this, and me. We are an extended family of our Father's. Because of this, I should be familiar (supportive and kind) to all, and be willing to share what I have to help others. At work, social gatherings, church, and home, I try to be a positive example. I try to be helpful, honest, kind, patient and understanding. I try to use my talents and resources to help others, not just myself. Often, this is hard to do, for a variety of reasons. Our Father knows this. We can pray to Him for help. And for those times, I can ask myself "WWJD?" - "What Would Jesus Do?"
