Chat With a Mormon Online
I have a wonderful family with a beautiful wife who I have been married to for over 20 years. We are from Chatsworth and Simi Valley California, and then started our family and moved to Colorado, from Fort Collins then to Windsor area and Severance. We have 6 children, that still keep us exceptionally busy and happy! We live in an area of Colorado where we could have some land to work with... ...unfortunately, it has been way more work than we were ever hoping or have time for! I am a Systems and Network Engineer for the USDA and have worked for them now for over 7 years. I love to play football, but am lucky if I get to even play with my boys now and then, and also, if I get a chance, I will still watch a game or 2 of college each season, and maybe the Superbowl if the timing is right. I also love movies, books, and other things with the family at home, and most of all, hope that I can be a writer some day, not that I am any good at it, it is just some weird desire I seem to have. I am sometimes a home-body, but still love to get out and play golf and ski when the time and funds are available. I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter-Day Saints in the Canada Toronto Mission, where I learned Canadian, and loved working and being with the people there. This was definitely a defining point of my life, where I knew with my faith in God, that I could accomplish whatever I needed to.
I think like most people born a Mormon, as I was, there comes a point in life where you have to decide if you really believe in the faith you were raised with or not. For me, it happened when I was very young. Not sure why, but maybe because I was a more thoughtful and introspective youth, always thinking about spiritual and eternal things. I could not look up into the night sky and not know there was a God! I also always knew that he knew me personally, and cared about my happiness as well. Because I felt this way, I was always seeking for what the Lord wanted of me, and so I came to know that the principles taught in the church were true. First, by just following the commandments, to see if I would truly be happier. Then by reading the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon! I could feel the Spirit of the Lord and Holy Ghost confirming to me that I was following what he wanted me to do. So it was no problem for me to go on a Mission for the Church, in Ontario Canada, to teach others and bear witness of those simple but complete truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that He is my Savior and Redeemer. I feel this with all my heart, and desire to show my love back to Him, with all I do.
I was a very shy person growing up, and the idea of placing myself out of my comfort zone was almost impossible! So even though I knew that I wanted to go on a mission for the Church, I was still terrified. But I put my faith in the Lord, and knew that He would take care of me and my inability to speak very well in front of others. Not only was I able to bear witness of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but I found that I became a very powerful teacher and speaker when I was moved upon by the Holy Ghost! I knew that it was the Holy Ghost because I would revert back to my old self even moments thereafter, not able to speak as well and as clearly. Now even as a Father, Husband, employee, and a leader in our congregation, I can see the many ways that the influence of the Spirit, continues to bless me in ways that are beyond what I can do on my own! The Holy Ghost allows me to see what my children need without them even telling me, or how I can love and take care of my wife a little better each day! I get prompted on things that I need to study to stay current in my job. But most recently as a local leader in our Church, I see in everyway the influence of the Spirit in helping me to take care of things that would overwhelm anyone! I would never think to try to do this without His assistance, and without knowing what the Lord wanted me to do!
I strongly believe that daily scripture study and prayer are essential to staying close to the Spirit of the Lord! I feel they help me keep my life in tune with God's will and give me guidance and inspiration in my family, work, and other activities. This doesn't make it so that I have an easy life, but it makes it feel like with the Lord, I can accomplish all that I am here to do, and that I can truly overcome my faults and problems. I love to help others through church and community service, we have activities in the Church where we try to provide service to our home towns and surrounding areas. We also try to serve one another in our local congregations through HomeTeaching and visiting those in need! I especially enjoy working with young people, through Boy Scouts, and other youth activities. I have the special privilege of serving as the bishop of a local congregation and find my own faith strengthened by the faithful example of fellow members that I witness every day.
