Hi I'm David
I grew up in the country east of Clovis, Ca. I loved drawing, baseball, fishing and hiking. After high school, in 1984, I enlisted in the US Navy for 4 years and served onboard the USS Ford as an engineman. Around the same time, I married my high school sweetheart, who happened to be a great LDS girl. We eventually returned to our hometown where I opened a stone & tile contracting business and my wife stayed home to raise our children. In 1999, my company was chosen to do the interior marble/tile for the Fresno Temple. It afforded me to be close to most of the construction and I had the honor of setting its cornerstone. After many years, I went to work for a large utility company in a neighboring county. I am now a father of 8 kids (4 bio and 4 adopted) They all bring alot of happiness to me. My wife and I have been married for 27 years, and were sealed in the Oakland Temple in 1997. Some of my other interests include slowly restoring my 1968 Dodge Charger, fishing, raising some livestock, gardening and US History...I had a great family before joining the church, but now, I understand why some of the things I've experienced, set me along the path to finding the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Why I am a Mormon
When I was probably 8 or so, my sister underwent a serious operation to save her life. I remember praying for the first time of my life on her behalf and feeling the comfort Heavenly Father returned to me. I grew up in a great family with loving parents, but something spiritual was missing. I tried going to church with my grandmother a handful of times, but never felt the spirit at her church, it always seemed like the pastor there was all about raising money. Later In high school, I met my future wife and she was a member of the LDS church. In 1988, After we were married and just before I went on a 6 month Navy cruise, I met with the missionaries several times and my mother in law gave me a new Book of Mormon. I took the book with me and read it while I was out to sea. When I returned I decided to join the church The Book of Mormon really spoke to me with truth, and I especially admired some of the prophets like Abinadi standing up to an evil king in order to preach the Gospel of Christ and even paying for it with his life. When I got out of the Navy, we relocated to another part of the state and immediately our small family was assigned home teachers. One of my first strong feelings of knowing the church was true was seeing how these two guys would visit our home each month and become our true friends through their service. I'll never forget what they did for us as we were young and just getting started. A side note, for most of my life, my mother vollunteered at the local LDS geneology library and it was through her that I got a real appreciaton for finding out who my ancestors were and what they meant in my life. My dad also had a few business partners who were LDS and they usually left a real good impression on me. I have marveled at how things "fell" into place for me to find the true Gospel.
How I live my faith
As the cubmaster in our ward, I am able to see the young scouts set goals and recieve recognition and awards. They are always so excited. I think this is a good example of how we as Heavenly Fathers children can do the right things in our lives and set our own goals of returning to live with him someday..
