Shelly: Mormon.

Hi I'm Shelly

About Me

I have lived in 2 countries and 6 states. I love traveling, adventure, music and sports. I graduated from college with my bachelors degree in Recreation Management, specifically Therapeutic Recreation. I play the piano, guitar and trombone. I currently live in Chicago, supporting my husband while he goes through medical school. I work for a company that sells medical supplies and hope to one day get back to what I enjoy doing most, showing people to love themselves through sports. When I'm not working, you will find me playing sports or rooting for my favorite team, biking along Lake Michigan, scrapbooking, or looking up places to one day travel too; currently working towards residing in Paris, France.

Why I am a Mormon

I needed something to get me through each and every day. I needed a reason to live. From a young age, I was blessed with an athletic and musical talent. Sports/activities always came easy for me. Any chance I got, I would be practicing some kind of sport or playing some kind of instrument. At first these were the the only things I could find happiness in: sports and music. I was on a traveling soccer team and played piano with the Colorado Orchestra. I lettered in 2 sports in high school and played in Jazz Band. I was well liked and most people knew who I was. I was voted as Senior Class President. I went to college and decided I needed to focus more on schooling and getting an education than playing sports. I went to a college of 30,000+ and suddenly became a nobody. Then something happened- I was injured and my world came crashing down around me. I wasn't able to be active and I lost myself in trying to identify who I really was. I searched many places to find true happiness, but couldn't find it. I decided I needed to start not only believing in the religion I grew up on, but living and implimenting it in my life. I'm thankful that wherever I move, I can always find the church with people who are willing to be my friends. I'm a Mormon because I can be. I believe in Jesus Christ and I know He knows who I am. Being a Mormon gives me strength and purpose in life, something I wasn't able to find anywhere else.

Personal Stories

Why do Mormons go on missions?

Mormons go on missions because they want to share the light in them with others. Who doesn't want others to be happy? One thing that makes Mormons happy is having a faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ that they live and know us by name. Faith leads to Hope, Hope leads to Reason, Reason leads to Knowledge, and Knowledge leads to Ability Ability to become someone and be someone special. Why do mormons go on missions? They want others to feel the comfort of a loving Heavently Father and Jesus Christ. With that knowledge individuals realize they are someone that someone else out there cares that they exist.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday. I pray morning and night, alone and with my husband. I pray before meals, before I do something out of my comfort zone, and just about any chance I need comfort. I took the commandments and guidelines and just started living them. Anything I was doing that didn't feel of worth or purpose and was against the commandments, I chose to cut it out. I have seen the direct result of living righteously and how that has brought me to where I am today. My life has purpose and meaning and I feel more free living the commandments than not. I visit sisters in my community on a monthly basis, volunteer at the local rehab hospital, and teach new members / visitors learning about the LDS church every week during Sunday School. I couldn't be happier.
