Hi I'm Kenny Johnston
I am 22 years old and I am a open book. I love music and singing, that is pretty much my life! I love the water and the mountains that is where I can lose my self and wash away all of my worries from the world. I love writing stories about anything. I was baptized into the church in June 2010 and it was the BEST decision I ever made! I love the gospel and I love my Savior and older brother Jesus Christ and I know that he loves me! Teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings me so much joy into my life and seeing people repent and come unto Christ, there's no words to describe the feeling I get when that happens.
Why I am a Mormon
Four years ago I was txting my friend on a Sunday afternoon and she said "Oh I am at church. You are missing out on so much." She invited me to go to church next weekend and I said yes. After that Sunday I started going to Seminary for only a semester and half way through it I started meeting with the missionaries. For 4 months a prayed everyday to ask Heavenly Father if this was true and I got my answer the last day of Seminary. I got baptized on June 19th 2010 and I have loved every second of it. Now I am the Branch Mission Leader of the Young Single Adult Branch in Lakeside Montana. That Night when I got my answer (Through a dream) I asked Heavenly Father if this was the answer. I went back to sleep and I had it again. This happen a few times through the night so I said "OK. OK I get it this is my answer." Ever since then I have come to KNOW that this is the true church on the earth today and I KNOW that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that he restored the fullness of the gospel on the earth today. This I KNOW to be TRUE!
Could you talk about your baptism?
My baptism was the most incredible and memorable experience I have had in my life. It was on June 19th 2010 at the Kalispell Stake Center. Elder Miner and Elder Lanham were the missionaries that taught me and Elder Miner was the one that baptized me. My parents who are non members came to my baptism and through out the whole thing they cried. I think I loved the most about my baptism and the most memorable was when my father got up and said the closing prayer and when my parents gave me a huge hug and said "I am so proud of you making the right decision for your life."
In what ways have your prayers been answered?
The one prayer that comes to mind is the one that I asked if this church was true. My prayer was answered through a dream. A beautiful young women came up to me and said "Isn't it time to teach your children the Book of Mormon?" I said "Yes. Yes it is." After reading the last few verses in Moroni, my son asked me "Daddy, how can I get the priesthood and a Patriarchal Blessing?" Then I woke up. I knew right then that this church was true and that Joesph Smith was a Prophet of God and that the Book of Mormon was true.
Please share your feelings/testimony of the Restoration of the Gospel.
My testimony of the restoration can not be explained in 2000 words. I am so thankful for the Prophet Joseph Smith being the key to unlocking the last dispensation. God did NOT shut up after the Apostle's died. He was never silent and he did not close his door and ears to us. We fell into an era of apostasy and he took the FULLNESS OF THE GOSPEL from the earth until the year 1820. Today we NOW HAVE THE FULLNESS OF THE GOSPEL with all the keys for the living AND dead ordinances. We have the priesthood that Jesus Christ had when he was on the earth. I know this to be true and now I am out here in Ohio teaching it to people. I LOVE IT! I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ our savior and redeemer of the world. Amen!
Why do Mormons go on missions?
There are many reason's why "Mormon's" go on mission's. Some go because it is a commandment from God to build the Kingdom of God. Others go out of duty for their family. Let me tell you why I AM on a mission. I absolutely LOVE this gospel and this amazing work. I love seeing that light in their eyes and that faith in them grow larger and larger until it's like a fire in them. I love seeing people read the book of Mormon and see their faith build and grow stronger. I LOVE seeing people make sacred covenants and step into the waters of Baptism and take that step of faith and Come unto Jesus Christ and follow him FOREVER!!! THAT'S WHY I am on a mission.
Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?
I think the most influenced teaching from the savior in my life is FAITH and LOVE! In the new testament when Jesus is resurrected he goes to the shores of Galilee and says to Paul and the other disciples that he needs his disciples and he needs them FOREVER! That is an act of faith and love. They love him so much that they are willing to leave everything and go preach and teach his gospel. I love it!
Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?
SURE! But remember the missions are far from being secret! Being on a mission is so much fun and rewarding. Yes there are going to come times in our lives where we want to give up and go home. Believe me I have had some of those. But we need to remember that we need to put all of our trust in him no matter what. We are out here for 18 months to 2 years preaching and teaching people how to become closer to their savior Jesus Christ and there loving Heavenly Father. We teach about Faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, Repentance, Baptism, Recieving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and Enduring to the end. There are people out there that are READY to recieve this gospel all we have to do is to open our mouths and share it!
Why do Mormons do family history or genealogy work?
The reason why we do family history and geneology work for our ancestors is because so we can be together forever in the eternities. The spirit of Elijah will touch your heart and you will want to have that opportunity to baptize your family members in the temple and to be sealed to them for eternity.
How I live my faith
How I live my faith is through my actions in the church. The church callings I have builds up so much faith as I go out with the missionaries and see the faces of people that listen to the message we have for them. I live my faith through giving service to others. It also gives me a chance to work on my leadership skills and to have a better Christ like attitude.
