I love to play basketball, especially with my 3 boys. They love to be outside playing sports, and I love being outside with them. They love camping outside, and sometimes they love just camping downstairs in the living room with me. My wife and I love to go running together and hiking when we get the chance. Our family also loves to travel together, and we have been in many places throughout the world. Our favorite places include countries around the Baltic Sea, the Tahitian Islands, and the Middle East. I was a business major and spent most of my career in the business world. While I am still a partner in a business, I have recently taken a full time job as a teacher and devote most of my time to that endeavor. I have also started a Masters program in Religious Studies. Needless to say, my life is busy, but I love it. I'm happy. I'm blessed.
I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I know it is the true church of Jesus Christ restored upon the earth today. The more I study the bible the more I realize that this is His church, run by Him, in the same way He ran it in ancient days. When I study the Book of Mormon I come to realize that this book was truly written by prophets in ancient America, and that they knew the reality of the Savior. But more than anything else, I'm a Mormon because when I live the teachings that come from the scriptures and our modern day prophet and apostles, I'm happy. It brings me joy. In other words, it works. I believe the purpose of life is to learn how to have joy, no matter what the circumstances. I've learned that by truly living the teachings of the church as taught from the prophet and apostles, as well as the scriptures, brings me joy--come what may. I am a Mormon because I know that in this church is the priesthood power to seal my family together forever--a power exercised within the walls of our temples. I know these things to be true because I have felt them to be true. I love the Savior, Jesus Christ, and I have come to know him through living these teachings. That's why I am a Mormon.
I currently serve as a bishop in my ward--which is essentially like the pastor. While this is not an easy thing to do, I consider it a great blessing in my life as I spend much of my week helping others with their hardships. When people are struggling with decisions to be made or decisions they have made, I spend my time serving as a counselor to them. The other thing I get to see as bishop are the many people who anonymously help others. It has been very moving to me to see the selfless service of so many people. I have become a better person from their examples. I have coached some of my kids' sports teams in the community. Basketball is my favorite to coach. My wife is a soccer coach, and Saturdays are all about going out and supporting the kids together as a family. I can't think of a better way to spend my Saturdays. I have recently become ham radio licensed and am organizing a neighborhood emergency preparedness program. In case there is ever a natural disaster in our area, I want to make sure that my family and my neighbors are prepared and safe. We love our community.
