I grew up in San Diego, just an average kid. I grew up with three older sisters and my mom and my dad. I went to college for a few semester before I made the decision to serve a full-time mission. I am currently serving a mission in Massachusetts speaking Haitian Creole and I absolutely love the people here.
I grew up in the church, so I never really had a chance to have the Holy Ghost give me a witness that the church was true until later in my life. I always went to church, but I was never 100 percent sure that it was true. That didn't come until I was taking a Book of Mormon class at school. Our teacher asked us a really profound question If you were there with the Nephites when Christ came, what would you say to him? I realized at that moment that Christ had died for me and I had given nothing back. It was then that I decided to serve a mission and help the Lord. Since then, my testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel has increased so much and I am so thankful to the Lord for opening my eyes.
I am currently serving a full-time mission in Boston Massachusetts speaking Haitian Creole. That means that I have given up two years of my life to serve both the Lord and the Haitian people living in New England. Teaching the gospel is one the best things that I have done with my life and I absolutely love spending time with the Haitian people. Before I came out on my mission, I was a ward missionary for the Carlsbad California Mission. During that time, I went out teaching with the full-time missionaries to meet new people and help them feel more comfortable with coming to church. I could talk to them at church and just be a friend to them so that they wouldn't feel out of place since everyone is welcome in the church.
Prayer has been a great blessing in my life. Whenever I need help with anything or if I am feeling down, I know I can always pray and speak with my Father in Heaven. I know that He always listens and that He is there to comfort me. Now that I am on my mission, I find myself turning to God even more. I often find myself in tough situations that I know I couldn't get out of without God's help. As I pray, I feel comforted by the Spirit and I know that everything will end up alright.
First of all, my faith in Jesus Christ has given me such a hope for what is to come in the next life. I now know that, through Christ, I can live with my family for all eternity. Also, my faith in Christ has encouraged me to serve a mission. While on my mission, I have learned many valuable life lessons that I know I will be able to teach my children in the future.
Have you ever seen a movie that you thought was so good that you told all your friends about it so they could see it too? It's kind of the same thing with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's such an incredible thing and we want others to experience it and receive the blessings that it has. It's the reason I'm on a mission right now.
The Book of Mormon has played a major role in my coming unto Christ and our Heavenly Father. In 3 Nephi chapter 11 verse 15, I truly came to a realization that Jesus is my savior and that he did everything to help me return to be with my Father in heaven. Also, in Alma chapter 26 verse 12, I realized that I could do anything if I had enough faith in Christ. Both of the passages, among many more, have really helped me in my life. I truly do love the Book of Mormon and I know that it is the word of God.
Currently, I am serving a full-time mission. That means that I walk the streets, meeting new people, and telling them about the Message of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I do this because I have a love for this Gospel and a love for the people I teach. I want others to have the same converting experiences that I have had so that they can know that they can live with their families in God's presence for time and all eternity. We also work with church members to help them build their testimonies as well.
