Hi I'm Katie
I love sports, reading, photography, learning and teaching. I've been a member of the LDS religion all my life, but became truly converted during my college experience.
Why I am a Mormon
The gospel helps me to be a better person. It helps me to do my best in life- both temporally and spiritually. The gospel helps me overcome sin and temptation that come before me, I am then able to continue to progress and come closer to Christ.
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
The first time I read the Book of Mormon from start to finish I was 18 and in college. I was away from home for the first time and could no longer lean on the testimony of my parents and siblings. I didn't have a testimony of my own, but as I read the Book of Mormon for the first time, I came closer to Christ, and the seeds of the gospel were planted in my heart. Year after year, I had experiences that promoted the growth of these seeds. I was preparing to go to the temple to learn more fully about the gospel, and the atonement of Jesus Christ. As I studied from the Book of Mormon everyday, knowledge filled my mind, answers to questions came, peace entered my heart, and I knew I was making the right decision to attend the temple. The Book of Mormon has been part of the foundation of my testimony, and continues to be as I study it each day.
How I live my faith
I recently had an experience that strengthened my faith in Heavenly Father and His attention to the details of my life. At work, I would give presentations in front of groups, but was always nervous and struggled through them. My boss brought it to my attention one day, and said it was an area I needed to improve on. Shortly thereafter, I was asked to teach a Sunday school class during church. My nerves got the best of me for the first few weeks, but after that I became more comfortable teaching and presenting in front of large groups. I studied the lessons each week and grew my testimony of the Bible, the gospel, of Heavenly Father's love for me. I was also able to translate this experience into my work life and became a more effective presenter. By living the gospel, not only was my faith enhanced, I also grew in my profession.
