I am 23-year-old college student trying to figure out what I want my life to be. I'm a native of Utah and I've been a member of this Church all of my life. I just recently returned from teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to people in and around Jacksonville Florida, an experience that has greatly blessed my life. I really enjoy making music on the piano and clarinet, traveling to cool places, and working with computers. I also love to keep up on current events, and consider myself an active and involved citizen of my country.
I grew up in a family that was already in the Church so I've been taught about God all my life. At first I was Mormon just because my parents were - they always went to church and were actively involved in it. It wasn't until I got older that I learned for myself that this Church is truly the Church of Jesus Christ. I came to my own knowledge of this by reading the Book of Mormon and praying to God every day. Little by little, as I was obedient to the things that Church leaders and my parents taught met to do, I gained the personal witness I have now. As I have continued in this path I have grown in my self-worth, happiness, and peace. I have learned for myself that following Christ is the BEST course any person can pursue in his or her life.
The Book of Mormon speaks about God plainly and simply, in language that is closer to the way we speak today. It teaches about God's love for us as His children and the plan He created to help us return to live with Him, which isn't discussed a lot in the Bible. This knowledge really helped me come to know that not only does God care about us, but that He has an active role in our lives even though on earth we are not in His presence. This life is our time to prepare to return to God again, just as the Book of Mormon says, and I'm grateful that He did make a way for us to return to His presence again.
Joseph Smith truly was and is a prophet of God. His was a life of tremendous accomplishment in a very short space of time. His was also a life of tremendous hardship and persecution. Why did so many oppose him and his mission? I believe it is because it wasn't his mission at all. It was, in all reality, the work of Jesus Christ. I don't know how anyone could endure the trials and afflictions that Joseph Smith endured, and have the unflinching determination that he had, for a book, a message, and a ministry, that isn't true. I know this work to be true because of wickedness and opposition that is and always has been attacking it. Joseph Smith was truly a prophet of God who gave his life for the work of Jesus Christ and His gospel.
My faith in Jesus Christ has been a pillar in my life and a guidepost to help me make important decisions. It is because of my faith that I chose to serve and teach people in Jacksonville Florida full-time for two years. It is this same faith that motivates me now. I do my best to be an example to those I meet whose faith may be weak, and to keep the commandments the Lord has given me. I have a desire to serve in the Church, and when opportunities to serve arise I plan to help in whatever way I can.
