Hi I'm Nathan
I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas for thireen years, then I moved to Scottsdale Arizona for my high school career and a year of college. I am a singer and dancer. I love games especially board, card and video games.(Even a little bit of Dungeons and Dragons now and again!) I am a brother of three and an uncle of three and love all of them. I have done dance for fourteen years of all different sorts of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and ballroom, and I LOVE it. I have also grown up and still play tennis, ping-pong and basketball which are probably my three favorite sports. I am currently serving a mission in the Pocatello, Idaho mission. I have spent my mission in Salmon and Idaho Falls, and I LOVE it!
Why I am a Mormon
I was very fortunate and was born into a family that is Mormon. However, I gained my testimony just like any convert. I read the Book of Mormon and I knew that it was true. I truly love it. I have tried my whole life to follow Christ's example and I have seen the blessings of it in my life. I know that when I make mistakes and fall, He is always there to pick me up when I fall and to lift me higher. When I was 6 I found my older brother's studying and I asked to join them they said as long as I was not a pest. So I went up on the bunk bed and listened as they read and talked about the scriptures and I felt what I know now, was the spirit telling me what they were saying was true. Ever since I have known the church is true. I have felt it so many times throughout my schooling and mission years. As a missionary I get the oppurtunity to bear testimony of Jesus Christ everyday. It is amazing how much you can grow in your knowledge and testimony of the Saviour by study, prayer and sharing testimony. I have seen, felt, and heard the truth of the gospel and truly I know it is wonderful and best of all, true.
Could you talk about your baptism?
I was baptized when I was 8. Even though I have a bad memory and can barely remember it, I still remember the sweet spirit and feeling in my whole body. I felt my Savior's love.
Why do Mormons go on missions?
Mormons go on missions to share the greatest message of all, that is that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer, and He loves us so much. We have had prophets throughout time and have a prophet on the earth today. We lived as families before this life here on earth, we live in families now, and we have the oppurtunity to live with them forever in heaven, for truly, 'heaven' would not be 'heaven' without my family. Personally, I have always wanted to be a mission. I saw my brothers serve missions and that helped fan the fire. But, the examples of my family, and my friends, helped to show me how to be a missionary. We serve a 6-24 month mission to fully dedicate all of our time to the Lord. But, we are or should be missionaries all of our lives because we have the truth.
How has the Holy Ghost helped you?
The Holy Ghost has helped me in uncountable ways. It has given me a testimony of the restored gospel, It has comforted me when I am down and encouraged me on the path that I am on now. I could not be a missionary without it. More important than all, I know that I have repented of my mistakes and have been forgiven of them through the Holy Ghost.
How does making right choices help us make more right choices?
When we decide to choose the right or make right choices it becomes easier every time we face the temptation. Only this once or No one will know do not hold any sway because I know that if I give in once it will be so much harder the next time.
How can your talents and gifts bless others?
I have a very strong testimony that the talents we share help us grow and help others grow. For me, I love singing. I love to sing in choirs, duets, small groups, or in the shower it does not matter to much to me. When I sing I feel connected with whoever I am singing with. It puts aside all differences and allows all people of the world to communicate in the same language. It is truly amazing. I have been inspired by other people's singing especially my mom and has inspired me to be as good as I am today, which is not great but enough I hope to inspire others. Our talents and gifts are given from God and he has provided them to bless our lives and the lives of others. Hence, every gift or talent no matter how small or trivial or unshareable as we may think they are, are a blessing and can and will bless others if we let them.
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
The Book of Mormon has brought me closer to God. Recently, I have undergone a study of the scriptures by focusing on Jesus Christ, his attributes, titles, actions, and words he speaks. My testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon has grown, and my knowledge that it truly does testify of Christ has grown immensly. I always knew it did, but now I am strting to comprehend how it does that. As I have read, I have felt the Holy Ghost testify to me that it is true, and I fell closer to God in those moments then almost any other time in my life.
How I live my faith
I am currently serving as a missionary in Idaho! I love it! Formerly I organized the ushers in my ward. I am an eagle scout. I have been part of a choir for about 12 years and have served in all sorts of positions throughout that time. Living in Texas, the mormon population was very low, and I learned I had to make decisions in who I was friends with and what choices I made even if I made those choices standing alone. When I moved to Arizona there were a lot more mormons around which was a trial and a blessing. I no longer had to stand alone but people are people and they make mistakes and it is hard knowing somebody make decisions in life that seperate themselves from God. I am far from perfect and I do not have a lot of friends but who is close to me I treasure and I love and no matter what religon they are I hope their decisions reflect their beliefs. It is difficult but it is possible.
