Hi I'm Blake
I'm 21 years old and i am serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love to drive anything with power! i off road in my jeep, i ride ATV's like im being chased and I pretty much have the drifting skills of a pro. I love to play any sport and especially excelle at Dodgeball, which is more of a calling than a sport to me. I love my family, our savior and our Heavenly Father, they mean everything to me and i work hard to share with others what i have. I would say normal doesnt exist and so i am just kinda me. I play airsoft, i paintball, i played soccer for many years competitively, i was recruited for the junior olympics for running but turned it down for soccer, i played laccrosse and i dated as much as i could. I believe that going fast is better therapy than a psychatrist. I believe that life is what you make it and often we make some dumb things and that's why Christ did what we call the Atonement. I have a family of a mother and father who are my best friends, 5 sisters and 3 brothers who i would do anything for, i have 17 going on 18 neices and nephews and i know our families can be together forever. I am going to have a double major in Political science and business and then its on to Law school. I plan to retire to own and cook for my own high class restaruant and to be a moral and ethical officer in our government. I can wiggle my ears, i love making and watching movies, i I enjoy video games and spending time with my best friends, who are also serving the savior on their missions in Brazil, Mexico, Italy and so forth. I believe life should be fulfilling and not just full, I believe that each day we create our future and that as we focus our lives on the savior, all things fall into place for our good.
Why I am a Mormon
A lot of people I meet say, "O well you grew up Mormon didn’t you?" and although I reply, "thankfully yes" I know that each member of our church is truly a convert. We must be, the only way to follow Christ is to read his words and ask him which church we should go to. I have personally studied the scriptures and I have pondered over them, and I have asked God if this is all true and what I should be a part of. And I can tell you that I have gotten an answer from God that this is his church and that the Book of Mormon is true, and an answer from God is stronger than the gates of hell which try to get me to deny what I know to be true. It's simple “by their fruits ye shall know them" (matt 7:20) try the fruit and you will know too.
Why do Mormons go on missions?
We have a unique message for the world, and that is that the Heavens are still open and that the savior has reestablished his church on the Earth today. It's like we hold to cure to the cold and we desperately want to share it with those we love, meaning everyone. I am serving a mission for our Lord Jesus Christ in Minnesota, and I am here because I must share with all, the wonderful cures that I have experienced because of the savior's restored church. I have prayed and asked God about his church on this earth and he has shown me the truth of it. I serve because the Book of Mormon has saved my life in more ways than one. I serve to save all those who need to know that they are children of God, that he loves them and wants to help them. I serve, because we have the cure for all of life's challenges, because we have the teachings and understanding of the Savior's Atonement, and when we bring people to the knowledge and application of the Atonement, they are cured of all challenges that Satan can throw at us. I go by Elder Evanson because it is a reverence for our calling, it means teacher and is an office in our church. We truly beleive that it is part of being called by Jesus Christ to go forth and preach the Gospel. And our title and uniform can help others recognize that we are servants of our Lord and master. I see miracles daily, and I have seen people's lives changed for the best through this, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and so we serve because of him, he who died for us, the Savior who served us all by his unselfish and pure sacrifice.
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
In2005, our prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, challenged us to do something that would set an unwavering support to lead me back to God. He asked us all to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year, and he challenged us in the Fall... I took on this challenge as a high school student and finished late on New Years eve. And that was powerful and wonderful, but I didnt act on it, yet. about 6months later i had another life changing challenge before me, i was invited to pray and ask God if the Book of Mormon was true and to not stop praying until i got an answer. As i kneeled by my bed, i pleaded with the God to direct me and tell me if this Book, in which our whole religion stands or falls on, is true. I got this powerful feeling of love and started crying, but in ignorance i did not recognize that to be a good enough answer, so i pleaded, lord give me a great peace and feeling of calmness. immediately i felt the greatest peace know, but to a nieve 16 year old it wasnt what I wanted, then i asked the Lord to give me the answer as he would so that i would recognize it. And he did, again, for the third time that night! I came to realize that which the prophet Elijah spoke in the Bible. The spirit is in our hearts and minds not in great signs or the winds or fires. From that day forth i have know that the Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God adn that this is the Savior's church on the Earth today. And as i testify of these things the spirit recomfirms that truth to me, daily. And i will forever thank God for his patience and answer to me.
Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?
Think to yourself of the last truly good movie you saw, or maybe the best restaruant you have ever eaten at. Did you tell your friends and family about it? surely you did! so why not do the same for something that brings greater joy and happiness?! This is the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and has saved my life in so many ways, and it has brought me true and lasting happiness, so i must share it with those I love, for they need it as surely as I do. The best way to share what you know is to ask what others know and then show them how much you love them by sharing what you know. I try to remeber three imortant things to do each time, 1 Teach, 2 Testify, 3 Invite. we must teach eternal and unchanging truths, we must testify that we know they are true and then we must invite others to act and find out for themselves. rely on the Lord because only he can let people know that these things are true, and if you do his spirit will guide you home. As my Christlike mother says "no one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care."
How I live my faith
A man is but his thoughts and desires, so i live my faith by first thinking of Christ and desiring to be with him again and then i act, I do as he would have me do. Each day we choose who we will serve and we deside to either have the joy of the gospel or the misery of the world and satan. I love everyone and i try diligently to show them that i do, i share with them all that i have, especially my testimony of our savior and his Atonement. I am a servant of God, I am a full time missionary, and i am just a young man trying to live as Christ would have me live. I know that i am doing whats right because i feel the saviors love daily as i share the truth of this message.
