Hi I'm Amanda

About Me

When I first married, I was a stay-at-home mom. I loved it! I still love being with my children. When that marriage ended, I needed to find work. That lead me to joining the Army Reserve at age 37! I love it! I've been to Iraq, which was an amazing experience, especially because of the support of other Mormons. We had church activities 3 times a week. Being able to keep God in my life helped me get through that hard time. Last fall I married a wonderful man who loves the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have a blended family of 3 grown children, 3 teenaged boys and an adorable grandson. Following the teachings of Jesus gives us guidance and makes joining families easier. With all the trials of life, being able to turn to scripture and prayer for answers has caused us to have amazing blessings and miracles in our life. I love living in Arizona and take advantage of the great weather to jog and hike. I love cooking for my family and when I can find time, I like to crochet, sew and do crafts. With our active family, that's not too often!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up active in a Christian church, but there were times in the lessons I questioned the logic of what was being taught. Some things didn't make sense. When I learned about the LDS beliefs, they rang true and made sense. I liked that people live their religion 7 days a week, not just on Sunday. I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and knows me personally. I have received answers to prayers and I have been given so many blessings that are exactly what I needed. I know that Jesus Christ atoned for my sins, but not only that, by living His teachings, I'm given extra help and strength to overcome my weaknesses and trials. Because I know that I am on Earth to prepare to live with God someday in heaven, it makes it easier for me to make good choices in my life. These choices bring me happiness. I love my family. I'm happiest when I'm with my family. I'm grateful to know that we can be together as a family forever. Life isn't easy. We have challenges daily. The principles of forgiveness, patience, faith, love and service help me to be a better wife, mother and friend. Everyone goes through tough times. Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is based on His principles makes a difference in my happiness. I know that Heavenly Father loves me and watches over me and my family daily.

How has the Holy Ghost helped you?

Everyone wonders sometimes if their prayers are heard. Our way of knowing we are heard is by learning to hear the answers from the Holy Ghost. I have been guided in many decisions by the influence of the Holy Ghost. Whether it was a big question, like staying in a difficult marriage or joining the Army, or whether it was a small question like, "What can I say to help my child/friend in their situation?" Prayer is a two way communication and the Holy Ghost is one way Heavenly Father can speak to us in answer to our prayers.

How I live my faith

I love singing in the choir. Music is an important part of my life. It helps me feel happy when I am happy, and less sad when I am sad. Sacred hymns can add to the spirituality of church and even though I do not have the best musical talent, I love honoring my Savior by singing hymns of praise. I serve with my husband as a Ward Missionary. We help the full-time missionaries teach people who are interested in learning more about Christ. I love seeing how the Gospel helps people to understand who they are and how they can have true happiness in their lives. As I learn more about Christ and what He wants me to be, it helps me remember to put others first and not worry so much about myself. This helps me to create friendships and closer family relationships. I love being able to serve others, even if it's just in small things such as cooking a good dinner, talking with a friend or giving a ride to someone.
