Hi I'm Jeffrey Hammond
I am married to my dream girl and we are both in medical school. I am a podiatry student and my wife in MD school. I love sports, art, music, family and food. I also love being a Mormon.
Why I am a Mormon
The reason that I am a Mormon is because of the happiness it brings in to my everyday life. I wake up in the morning knowing that I have a Heavenly father that loves me and wants me to be happy. I can pray and have a personal relationship with my Heavenly Father. I live the commandments of God and I receive many blessings because of it. I know that I will live with my wife and future family forever in the true restored gospel of Jesus Christ. My faith in God allows me to comfortable with myself and who I am. I can feel the love of my Heavenly Father every day and know that I can be comfortable in my own skin. I do not have to worry about the many voices of the world telling me what to do and what is "cool". I am happy with my personality, professional goals, and my marriage because I know that I am a child of a loving Heavenly Father. I am a Mormon because I know it is true and that I can have an eternal life and family.
Can you think of a specific challenge in your family that Gospel Principles helped overcome?
This story begins as many stories do. I was dating the girl of my dreams. While she was attending school in a different state, we kept in contact everyday through phone calls, texts, emails, video chats and occasional visits when time and money allowed. It eventually came clear that we wanted to be married together forever and to start an eternal family, but their was a challenge, we both wanted to attend medical school and had professional goals that conflicted with our desire to be married. It took great faith in our Heavenly Father and faith in knowing he wanted us to be happy and He knew what we should do. Knowing that my then girlfriend was going to be an amazing mother and doctor I changed my life goals and applied to a job where she had been interviewed for a spot at the medical school. With this taken care of we were engaged to be married. During this time I was uneasy of my future and felt as though I was losing my identity and previous goal to become a doctor. Also my wife had not been accepted to where I had obtained a job. With great faith I declined the job offer and confiding in my future wife about my worries, we praying together to our Heavenly Father for help. I was led to apply to podiatry schools in locations my wife had been accepted to school and we prayed and continued to move forward with our wedding plans to become an eternal family. In two weeks of my application I had interviews at two schools and within a month I had been accepted to both schools. Our prayers had been answered and we now have the great opportunity to be together forever and to both accomplish the goals that we feel that we need to accomplish. We learned that if we have faith in our Heavenly Father and do what he asks us to do we can be blessed. Heavenly father has us in mind and knows our desires in life. He wants us to be happy, succeed, find love and to have a family. I know that God lives and that if we follow His commandments and do what he asks we will be blessed.
How I live my faith
I live my faith with great joy, happiness and peace. Me and my wife spend part of our everyday life praying to our Heavenly Father, reading the Bible and Book of Mormon, doing service and spending time together. I am very busy with school, but I live my faith with a smile and a constant search to do service for anyone I see. I am always trying to become a better person, husband and child of my Heavenly Father. In my congregation I teach a Sunday school class every couple weeks. We discuss topics of the Bible, Book of Mormon, faith, love, family, the atonement of Jesus Christ and how families can be together forever. I enjoy attending church services every Sunday with my wife to remember the Savior Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us. While me and my wife attend medical school and find it hard to be together often, we cherish the time we have. We love one another and we know that we can live together forever as long as we follow the commandments of God. We are excited about our future careers as physicians, but also the future of having children and building a family upon the word of God. We live with faith and we know the God lives and will bless us.
