I knew at a very young age that when I grew up I wanted to be a wife, a mother, and a teacher. I was a science teacher until our beautiful baby boy was born, and now I have the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom. I enjoy cooking, spending time with my family, and sewing- my latest hobby. As a child I remember falling asleep to my mother playing hymns on the piano. I would like to become a proficient pianist so my children can remember me playing too. I am up to five hymns!
Although I was born and raised a member of the church, choosing to remain steadfast in my testimony has been one of the most important choices of my life. When I moved away from home, I made a commitment to the Lord to serve Him for the rest of my life. Many blessings have come to me as a result of this choice, including marriage in the Temple and the opportunity to become a mother. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know me personally. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has brought me the peace, joy, and happiness that can be found nowhere else on earth. That is because this is the true church of Jesus Christ, restored in the last days. I am so grateful to know that I am loved, and that I am a member of the Lord's church upon the earth.
It took some time before my husband and I were able to have a baby, and that experience taught me more about hope and trust. Hope kept me going, and trust in the Lord and His timing brought me closer to Him. In the "Preach My Gospel" manual, we read that "Hope is an abiding trust that the Lord will fulfill His promises to you. It is manifest in confidence, optimism, enthusiasm, and patient perseverance." Through that difficult time, I grew closer to the Lord and I knew, without a doubt, that the blessing of parenthood was a miracle that only he could grant to us. Looking back, I realize that we had marvelous experiences during that waiting period that prepared us for parenthood. I have no doubt that the Lord is aware of us and blesses us with experiences that we need most. He loves us! And I know this for myself.
I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life, and I felt that the only place I could turn for peace and comfort was to the Lord in prayer. Over and over again, the Lord has been there for me. I know without a doubt that He hears our prayers and He loves us. Even if our prayers are not always answered immediately or in the way in which we desire, He walked the path alone so we don't have to endure our life alone. He loves you! And He will heed your prayers!
Even though I do not teach school any more, I get the opportunity to prepare a lesson and teach a class in church each month. A friend and I visit other sisters in the ward on a regular basis, and this has helped me to develop lasting friendships with other women in my area. Each time I attend church and other church-related activities, I meet people that inspire me to want to be a better person.
