Glossary
This glossary defines words used by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that might not be familiar to those who are not members.

 |
Family Home Evening |
 |
An evening set aside weekly for family activities, discussions, and instruction. Church leaders do not schedule meetings or activities on Monday nights so that families can be free to be together. |

 |
Fast |
 |
To abstain from food and drink for the purpose of drawing closer to the Lord. |

 |
 |
Fast Offering |
 |
A donation given by members to benefit the needy. Funds collected by branches and wards, which are not needed by them, are sent to the general Church fund. The contribution generally consists of money saved by fasting for two consecutive meals. |

 |
 |
Fast Sunday |
 |
Fast Sunday, which is generally the first Sunday of the month, is designated as a time to fast for two meals and bear testimony in a sacrament meeting. |

 |
 |
Fireside |
 |
A meeting in which members gather for religious instruction outside of regular Sunday meetings. Firesides generally focus on a particular group or topic, such as youth, or missionary work. |

 |
First Presidency |
 |
The highest governing body of the Church. It is composed of the President of the Church, who is always the most senior living Apostle, and his counselors. |

 |
First Vision, the |
 |
The personal visitation in 1820 of God the Father and His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, in answer to the prayer Joseph Smith offered, asking which of the churches he should join. |

 |
Font |
 |
A large receptacle for the purpose of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins. Standard fonts are about four feet deep and six to ten feet in width and length. |

Friend, The |
 |
A monthly Church magazine with instruction, activities, and inspirational messages for children. |
