This glossary defines words used by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that might not be familiar to those who are not members.

Helaman
A Book of Mormon prophet and military leader. He led an army of young, inexperienced warriors into battle against the Lamanites. They prevailed because of their faith in God.
High Council
Twelve high priests who sit as a council under the direction of a stake presidency and minister in teaching, training, and supervising stake personnel or programs. The high council also convenes as a disciplinary council in cases of serious personal transgression.
High Priest
An office of the Melchizedek Priesthood. A high priest has the right to officiate in the Church. Stake presidents, mission presidents, high councilors, bishops and their counselors, and other leaders of the Church are ordained as high priests.
Holy Bible
One of the volumes of scripture included in the standard works of the Church. The Bible is divided into two main books: the Old Testament, which contains a history of God’s people before the birth of Jesus Christ, and the New Testament, which is a record of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and His disciples. Each of these books is broken up into smaller books, which are divided into chapters and verses. A reference from the Bible may look like this: Matthew 7:21
Holy Ghost, the
The third member of the Godhead; a personage of spirit.
Home Teaching
A program of the Church that enables every family to be visited in their home and to receive instruction and messages from Church leaders. Each family is typically assigned two priesthood holders as home teachers who visit monthly.
Humility
Submissiveness to the will of God; meekness and lowliness of heart.
