This glossary defines words used by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that might not be familiar to those who are not members.

|
Gathering of Israel |
|
The spiritual and physical gathering of all the house of Israel in the latter days. |
|
|
|
Genealogy |
|
Research to identify ancestors; family history. |
|
|
|
General Authority |
|
A priesthood leader over the general Church. This term can refer to prophets, apostles, and seventies. |
|
|
|
General Conference |
|
A bi-annual world conference of the Church, held in April and October, where members gather for five two-hour sessions to listen to instruction from Church leaders. General conference is broadcast via satellite from the Conference Center at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. |

|
Godhead, the |
|
Our Father in Heaven; His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost. |

|
|
Gold Plates |
|
Plates made of gold upon which the ancient American prophet Mormon abridged the record of his people. Joseph Smith translated the writings on the gold plates into what became the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. |

|
Gospel |
|
The “good news” of God’s plan for the salvation of mankind. At the center of His plan is the Atoning sacrifice of His son Jesus Christ, in whom alone salvation is possible. In its fulness, the gospel includes all of the commandments, principles, ordinances, and covenants whereby human beings can be forgiven of sin, overcome the world, and attain immortality and eternal life in the kingdom of God. |

Grace |
|
It is through the grace of the Lord Jesus, made possible by his atoning sacrifice, that mankind will be raised in immortality, every person receiving his body from the grave in a condition of everlasting life. It is likewise through the grace of the Lord that individuals, through faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ and repentance of their sins, receive strength and assistance to do good works that they otherwise would not be able to maintain if left to their own means. This grace is an enabling power that allows men and women to lay hold on eternal life and exaltation after they have expended their own best efforts. |
